This is the latest work of the Finnish band. 5-song EP presents us the new vocal of
Helion, Simo Autio, who was in the band for hardly two years and did only this record.
Never-ending line-up changes are curse of this amazing band which was founded in 1995.
Helion plays melodic heavy-power metal, has a number of demos and only one full-length album so far.
The EP starts with the “
Dreamcatcher”, a standard piece in the best veins of the genre. Catchy keyboard melody, the main clean vocal and some additional growls, thick guitar lines and the fast guitar solo – everything an exacting listener could want from the power metal. Actually, the whole EP was named after one line from the chorus of this song. “Liquid
Veil” is also a nice power metal song, a bit harder and faster than the previous one. In “
Blood of
Phoenix” you can find the guest vocals by Make Kivistö. This song has some awesome oriental tunes. As other songs, “
Phoenix” has quite usual construction but with a quiet break with some spoken words. “Tell No Tales” is one more pure classic power metal song. “Broken Mirror” is some midtempo piece that can be called a ballad.
The share of keyboards on this EP is quite big. Constant backgrounds, sharp melodies, solos are filling all the songs. Vocal duties shared by two guitarists, Jaakko and Simo, are done masterfully and it sounds great and interesting. The music is filled with energy and drive. All the songs on this EP are traditional power metal. It can be boring for someone who waits for experiments, unusual song composition and mixing genres, but here it’s done on a high level with the professional attitude and big experience. So, here we have one more small but splendid work.
