THE DEMO DAYS

Sinphonia was formed in December ´98 in the second largest town of Denmark, Aarhus. Through the last twenty years (resembling the average age within Sinphonia), Aarhus have been the musical center of Denmark, and it"s only natural that such an original outfit as Sinphonia should spring from that environment.

After several initial line-up changes, the band has been able to maintain a steady line-up since summer ´99 with exception of a change in keyboard player, as Jacob Thinggaard left the band in summer of 2000, with long-time friend Peter Jensen stepping in. The core of Sinphonia thus consists of drummer Dennis Buhl, bass player Thor Jeppesen, guitarist Henrik Rangstrup and keyboard player Peter Jensen.

The musicians in Sinphonia all have long time experience within the metal-scene, having played with different amateur bands - ranging from death and black metal to progressive rock. Originally meant for male-vocals, the music of Sinphonia have taken on a new and fresh approach with the expressive vocal-chords of Monika Pedersen.

In August "99 the band started to record the 5# promotion CD "When The Tide Breaks". The recordings took place in well-known Danish recording studio Aabenraa Studios, under the guiding eye of producer Jacob Hansen (a.o. Wuthering Heights, Behind The Curtain, Illdisposed, Aurora, Autumn Leaves, Without Grief, Breaking silence).

The demo got them a deal with Intromental Management in early 2000, and from there on things began to happen…

When The Tide BreakS

In September 2000 the Italian record company Lucretia Records International found big interest in the band, and thus signed them for a Worldwide deal, beginning with the release of the debut album in November 2000.

To complete this release, the band wrote and recorded three more songs, "Medusa" (instrumental intro), "Odyssey" (instrumental and very technical piece of music) as well as "Now And Forever" (which is a superb epic progressive track).

After the release of "When The Tide Breaks" great reviews from all over the World started coming in, and the band found themselves doing a lot of promotion for this release by making tons of interviews and playing a great deal of gigs in their home-country Denmark.

The Divine Disharmony

In the Spring of 2001, the band began demoing the new material, which will see the band heading into a more song-orientated style, and not trying to cram as many riffs as possible into one little song. The band have grown as musicians something you"ll definitely hear on the next release.

The new album is a concept disc entitled "The Divine Disharmony" - it is total fiction, but with strong references to Dante"s "The Divine Comedy". The recordings took all of October and November 2001, and the mixing of the album was done in February 2002.

Sinphonia re-signed with Lucretia Records Intl. in late 2001 for this, their second album, and it will see a worldwide release in November 2002. Deals have also been made for having the album released on CD-Maximum in Russia in October 2002 and in South America by Hellion Records in November 2002.

Sinphonia isn"t a band easily labeled - rather they like to see themselves as someone experiencing a new side to progressive metal, and if they"re allowed to - setting new trends. Whatever comes to mind when listening to Sinphonia - be it dark metal, gothic metal, progressive metal... - one thing is certain, the way in which the band combines the different musical genres cannot be labeled as anything else but original.
