Biografia : Lamented Souls

Lamented Souls formed at Kolbotn, Norway in the early nineties, and their first demo, 'Soulstorm' was released in 1993. The line-up on this recording was Olav Knutsen (aka Bestial Tormentor of Infernö) - guitars / vocals, OJ 'Noir' Moe (aka Apollyon of Aura Noir, DHG and Cadaver) - guitars / vocals, Petor Holm - bass and Simen Hestnæs - drums. Inspired by the likes of St. Vitus, Cathedral, Black Sabbath and Kiss, the follow-up, 'Demo 1995' received much appraisal in the underground doom metal scene, This was also the first recording ever featuring the voice of Simen 'Vortex' Hestnæs, who would later become wellknown for his work with acts such as Arcturus, Borknagar and Dimmu Borgir. The band was now a three-piece comprising Simen on guitars / vocals / bass, Olav - guitars / bass and OJ - drums / backing vocals. Playing live with this line-up proved difficult, so long-time follower and friend Einar Sjursø (Beyond Dawn, Infernö, Virus etc.) offered his drumming services. In 1997, Lamented Souls started work on their debut album, however recordings remained incomplete due to lack of funding. Discouraged by this, the quartet focused on other projects, and apart from a contribution to the 'Nemi - the Soundtrack' compilation cd on Nocturnal Art Productions, little was heard from the band for several years. When drummer Einar founded Duplicate Records in 2002, the idea of an ep release came up, and two tracks from the shelved album were remastered and released as the 'Essence of Wounds' 7"ep in January 2003.The ep sold out and the band performed a few concerts in their native Norway. As there clearly was a demand, Duplicate Records and Lamented Souls agreed to put out a cd compiling what little had been recorded during their twelve year existence. The cd, titled 'The Origins of Misery' was, after numerous delays, released in February 2004 and contains the previously unavailable album, the 1995 demo, two songs originally meant for a split ep that never came out and the instrumental 'Soulstorm' off the debut demo. Lamented Souls plan to release
their debut album proper in 2005, as well as performing live as much as possible.
