Biografia : Gutworm

Formed in Wellingborough in 1999, Gutworm exploded onto the local metal scene of Northamptonshire, quickly gaining a strong reputation for their powerful live performances.

Gutworm soon went to Backstage Studios, Nottingham to record their EP with legendary hardcore producer Dave Chang. The debut release, titled ‘Torn From Me', was unleashed early in 2000 and was well received amongst the press with Metal Hammer awarding it 9/10 and exclaiming “I can't believe this band are British and unsigned!”

After several tours across the country Gutworm ventured to the USA and became the first unsigned British band to perform at the November To Dismember Metalfest in California. The band played alongside seminal acts such as Morbid Angel and Testament and returned soon after to play at the New Jersey Metal Meltdown also featuring big names such as Nile and The Haunted.

With a strong underground recording and powerful live reputation, it's no surprise that Gutworm began to attract the attention of major labels. The band soon signed to European giants SPV and recorded twelve songs at Karo Studios in Germany during March 2001.

Following lengthy delays, which saw the album release date being pushed further and further back, Gutworm parted company with the label.

After a break, Gutworm resumed touring the country and re-established themselves as the best live band on the scene. This soon attracted the attention of new British label Anticulture Records who immediately signed the band in 2003. They went on to record an album featuring new material with Greg Chandler (of UK doom legends Esoteric) at Priory Studios in Birmingham.

Gutworm's long awaited full length album ‘Ruin The Memory' was released nationwide in June 2004 to critical acclaim…

“Prime examples of how to write modern extreme metal” – Terrorizer

“Impressive debut album from one of Britain's brightest new hopes” – Metal Hammer

“A succession of savory riffs and nodule-inducing, larynx-scraping vocals. Check out the livid 'Loveless', with more bottom-end than the contestants of Celebrity Fit Club and inhuman, fast-as-fuck drumming, and the blast-furnace of 'Incineration', which could easily take on the Relapse heavyweights” – Rock Sound

Since the album's release Gutworm have been busier than ever. After a stunning performance at the Bloodstock 2004 festival in Derby, Gutworm produced their first major video for album opener ‘What You Are' which was broadcast on digital music channels Scuzz and Kerrang.

The band have just completed a two week tour with rising US technical metallers and Lamb Of God label mates Byzantine and are now facing their first lineup change with the amicable departure of longtime bassist Carl Davis. Stepping in to complete the line-up is Liam Durrant (formerly of UK hardcore stalwarts Freebase), you can expect more rabid touring from Gutworm in the new year.

With support from Total Rock radio, Terrorizer and Metal Hammer and a strong underground following across the country, Gutworm are set to establish themselves once again as one of the finest metal acts in the UK today.

Gutworm's debut album ‘Ruin The Memory' is available now on Anticulture Records and distributed by RSK Entertainment in the UK and Overcome Distribution in France.
