BIOGRAPHY OF Black Candles

Black Candles is a parallel project of guitarist Pedro Ascarrunz Brinati (Aneurisma, Lilith, Effigy of Gods, Voice of the Soul , The Somberlain ), in which he explores other shades of the Doom Metal, influenced by old material of Anathema, Katatonia, Opeth, etc., and enriched with modern sound, is what presents this solitary project.

From the beginning it was his goal to record a Demo, EP or Album, playing all instruments and recording and producing it entirely alone. By lack of resources for this intention (money, recording studio, time, etc.) he could not do it, but until the year 2004, when he installed a homemade digital study at his home in Los Pinos (a mystical and bohemian district in La Paz city, by the way) where to the aim he can give to loose rein to his creativity and imagination to create music.

This project in fact was conceived in 2002, and its original name was “The Black Candles of the Death”, which he summarized to the present one, that is more compact, direct, and gives rise to many more meant and metaphors. The candles are instruments of much power, and depending on its color and material, they have diverse magical properties.

Pedro began to compose the songs in 2003 but it was a slowed down process which took a year between 2003-2004 to have interesting material to choose, to arm and to purify. Having 4 songs, the best way to present the material was in Demo-CD format, but by the quality of sound that he obtained, and by the addition of Anathema cover, the work was sent in format CD-EP. Pedro chose Anathema Cover because he had a dream in which this song was present, very clear and simultaneously strange.

The battery was programmed, he liked to play it and to really record it, but on his lack of technique for this instrument, Pedro decided to program it, with samplers quite real. The other instruments and the voices he played and recorded himself, and the EP also was mixed by his person. The mastering was responsibility of his keyboard player in Lilith (Boris Barroso).

Now (2006-2007) Pedro is composing new material for release a LP in early 2008, with invited musicians of recognized local bands, real drums in half of the album (played by him), and the best South American Doom. He is also preparing a performance of Black Candles in live, with talented musicians of bolivian scene, to be able to present it live and to have a small tour around Bolivia, his native country.
