Biografia : Black Autumn (GER)

Founded in the foggy autumn of 1995, Black Autumn had the goal to create music that had inherent the dense atmosphere of bands like Satyricon, Burzum or old Emperor. In enthusiasm for the big norwegian bands the first songs were written quickly, but the lack of proper equipment didn't allow good recordings to be made for a long time. So the real birth of Black Autumn had come later in 1998 as first recordings in decent quality were made using a 4-track-recorder and a synthesizer. After this the band was forced to rest for a while due to several reasons and the personnel participating in the project shrunk down from two to one, and M. Krall was solely responsible for any movement of the band in whatever direction from that point on. This was the time to give Black Autumn new directions. Electronics made their way into the music (caused by the influence of bands like Ulver, Portishead or Novy Svet and some Current 93 records) and which culminated in 2003's experimental 4-track demo cdr. But as this quite exceptional songs were still in the making, it became clear that the future of this project surely wasn't Avantgarde or anything like that. Compositions turned out to be more harsh, faster and more guitar orientated again. Lyricwise the time of usual woods-and-meadows-blackmetal was long gone and whilst the demo-ep circled around psychical diseases, the later lyrics turned more and more into cryptic metaphors, less narrative, more concentrating on atmosphere and symbolism. To get a picture of the present status of Black Autumn it would be a good hint to listen to the current demo-cdr "Cult of Nihil", which has been finished in January 2004 und clearly shows the direction Black Autumn will further explore in the future!
