Biografia : Armagedon (PL)

1986

The beginnings of Armagedon date back to late 1986. Kizz and Slavo supported by other musicians set up the group, which would reflect their then ambition: to be metal messengers!!! The world in the year 1986 was entirely different to what we know now. It took a lot of strength, determination and confidence to set up a band and keep it going. Metal in PL was almost non-existent… The mission was huge! Armagedon did set off, despite problems with equipment and premises it encountered at the beginning. The first two years of its activity were mainly hard work at rehearsals, gigs given from time to time and a rising interest of local fans, who persuaded the band in 1988 to record their first demo called “Armagedon”. This cassette was copied and circulated mainly among the fans and in next concerts they supported the group by showing their familiarity with the tracks. These were unforgettable days.

The next year some changes took place in the make-up and a new demo “Time of Survival” was recorded. It was this cassette, distributed throughout Poland and published in the zines at the time, that won Armagedon recognition, and concerts that followed confirmed a good welcome by fans. Crews from around Poland supported Armagedon at large festivals and smaller, local concerts.

1990 / 1991

The years 1990 and 1991 marked a breakthrough for the group. Armagedon matured musically. Its line-up became stable, and thus it came to be a top Polish metal band. Uncompromising music combined with energetic shows were an enormous power for Armagedon. “Dead Condemnation”, 1991, was the first demo the band recorded in a professional studio.

This stuff shook the metal Poland. Enthusiastic reviews, invitations to big concerts and incredible response from fans (for the first time, not only from Poland) further strengthened Armagedon’s position on the domestic stage.

The contents of “Dead Condemnation” carried huge amount of wild, death-metal energy combined with interesting melodic lines, so characteristic of the band’s music. This recording also brought considerable interest by professional labels. One of them, the English Peaceville Records signed a contract with the band for 3 records and guaranteed promotional tours in Europe. This seemed a beginning of a professional career for the group. Champagne flowed during the gig at Fugazi club.

Alas. After many months, when the band was lined up to enter the studio, a message came that “the English party is not in the position to meet the terms of the contract”… It was hard to survive at those times, especially as the group by choosing this contract rejected other interesting offers.

1993

Finally, the first official record, “The Invisible Circle”, recorded by Armagedon in the Modern Sound Studio, came out under the Carnage Records label in 1993. This was another milestone in band’s progress. Many independent reviewers recognized this as one of the best death-metal releases at the time. It is notable that in the 1993 rankings of all the magazines then published in PL, “The Invisible Circle” and Armagedon itself always occupied top positions.

1994

Again, international success seemed close. Perhaps it did not quite suit everybody. Perhaps not everybody (who could) did their best to achieve it. Well, as the Armagedon brothers Krizz and Slavo say, “let’s leave those days, this won’t change anything now”. However, there were some who could not come to terms with the termination of the band’s activity in 1994. In one of the last interviews Krizz said “maybe sometime, as Phoenix from ashes, maybe sometime… Armagedon will rise again!”

2006

And here we are! The Armagedon brothers decided to revive the band, just as a long time ago, at the very beginning. It was 2006. Shortly afterwards, Sooloo (bass), who played in the band since 1990, joined them. So the same core of the band !!! Joint rehearsals, massive enthusiasm and motivation. No burdens or obligations, just one message: glory to Armagedon and its fans!

2008

Following intensive preparations, the band started their recording session. Their new release, “Death Then Nothing”, was recorded in studio x in Olsztyn in August and October 2008.

2009

The band signed a contract with Mystic Production and the record was launched in February 2009. This is a very special record, it comes after so many years of absence, and yet it is both mature and contains a simple message. The powerful, succulent and selective sound, bursting voice and an uncompromising attitude to composition combine to make a very interesting whole. This great comeback of the band is likely to be the most powerful death metal records not only in Poland but also in the world!

As the musicians say: “The album is very coherent. We had quite a lot of time to create a work that would be entirely satisfactory to us. There are no unnecessary sounds here. Dense, dynamic tracks enriched with interesting melodic lines, a clear verbal message contained in the lyrics: “Death Then Nothing”, and the strongest line up in the history of the group, this defines the today’s image of Armagedon. We know our fans are going to like this release. We hope that it will also be appreciated by all those for whom “Death Then Nothing” will be the first encounter with the group.”

2013

October sees the release of the new album entitled Thanatology. The album contains eight new songs. Recorded and produced by the band and Arek Malta Malczewski at the Radio Gdańsk studio, Piano Art Kwidzyn and Sound Division.

The band commented: Destruction begins! It’s been nearly four years since the release of Death Then Nothing struck. We’ve returned much stronger, more mature and with devastatingly good material. The sound is wild yet precise with nostalgia in the lyrics. The new album contains eight highly disturbing songs, wrapped in a unique sound production. We are very proud of our new work! During September we will present to you several installments of Thanatology. Look out, we are coming again over the horizon, an even stronger Armagedon !

Thanatology by ARMAGEDON is released on October 2013 via Mystic Production.
