Biografia : Antarktis Utopia

Antarktis Utopia first got together in 1997. At this time the band consisted of four members, as follows: ansgaros on one guitar, Aapo on the other, A'raz on drums and Tero on vocals. It hadn't been long when Aapo left the band to concentrate on football and Tero was replaced by Miika. Then, two years and a few lineup changes later Klonkku took over the second guitar. During the first quarter of 2000 our vocalist at that time, Sampsa, was rudely thrown aside from Klonkku's way. In the summer months of the same year Antarktis Utopia's first demo was recorded. This demo was mainly a local delicacy as it never left AU's hometown, Savonlinna. So, with the three of us (ansgaros, A'raz and Klonkku) we continued up to early 2002 when we hooked up with a bassist, Valtteri.

Things didn't turn out as we would have hoped and he had to go. Jesse took his place. The four of us didn't get to play together for very long as A'raz, took and left Savonlinna to study gardening. Soon after that also Jesse left, leaving AU with only two members: ansgaros and Klonkku. Things began to look a little brighter again in early 2003, as a promising young (as if us others weren't that) drummer, Miikka, who had seen our "drummer wanted"-ad contacted us. We started rehearsing our songs with him, and this far things are looking great!

We recorded a demo called "Views From above" in October-December 2003. Although it's our third demo, it's the first "proper" one as in it's the first to have live drums (Yes, in a way you could say it's our first demo). The drums and vocals were recorded at AU's rehearsal place and guitar and bass tracks at ansgaros' apartment. On 15th of March 2005 we ditched our artist names and went with our real first names. Thus, ansgaros became Anssi, Klonkku became Henkka and Miikka remained Miikka. Soon after this we recruited Jyrki Häkkinen as our gig bassist, because we still had no regular bassist, and we had a gig coming up. Since then we have played gigs with Jyrki.

In November 2005 we finished our three-song demo called Self-destruction. It shows a little different side of Antarktis Utopia's music being more aggressive and more death metal-type material.

Continuing on our death metal path we naturally kept on rehearsing and made more songs. In summer/fall 2006 we recorded some of them which would later become our first full-lenght album, perhaps somewhat cryptically titled "030550". The album was released on January 5th, 2007.

This is the story of Antarktis Utopia and more is yet to come...
