We formed Aetranok under the inspiration and drive to bring something different to the towns of San Juan County, NM; worn thin by the endless stream of breakdowns by bands trying to be "core" and "brutal".

We felt it was time for a change of spirit into something dark and grim. We wanted to express the majesty and true hearted glory of Black Metal to our area.

In the winter of 2012, vocalist Vehldir, started the project with guitarists Apophis and Meretrix, and early on into 2013 bassist Thoros and Drummer Maelum.

After some differences where discussed, such as financial and academic preferences, Thoros and Vehldir left the group, leaving the remaining members to construct what is now Aetranok. But, their leaving didn't disband the remaining members. Shortly after the departure of Vehldir and Thoros, Apophis set to work, writing songs and building a home studio for the band to record in.

Meretrix stepped up as front man on both guitar and vocals, as well as working in cooperation with Apophis for the writing of most of the bass lines. But, without the resources and equipment, and a limitation of space, recording the drums was a process of a strong collaboration between Maelum and Apophis, in which Maelum would write the drums and Apophis would program the midi into his DAW (Digital Audio Workstation).

After 2 months of constant work and devotion, their first demo, Grande Invokation, was born in September of 2012.
