From 2003 The Band's Page

Born in 1972 and live in a city called Norrköping, Sweden. Where did I get my music interest? Well, the only talent that existed in the family could come from my father or my grand father? But I am not convinced of that, yet...

Anyway, about 5 years old I began to play piano, mostly for fun - but even classical pieces. That was my first contact with music. Then a few years further I was "a real rock-star" in front of the mirror or with friends, jamming with Iron Maiden and other bands :)

Short after my 10th birthday I was at a place called "Marielunds fritidsgård" (no translate for that). I was there sneaking behind the corners, watching a drummer (can't remember his name) who hammered fantastic on the drums - in my ears!! Finally I asked him if he could show me some rhythms. Remember the feeling how fun it was and how easy I thought it was to play...

Reaching teenage I met the great musician Jocke Salinder, now living in Spain working as a producer/studio-musician, I think?? He was at the time playing bass in two different bands called Kalle Baah and Lady Bianco. He was very important to me in many ways, not only musically. At the time I was a kid with some "private problems around", running in the streets without any meaning in life. Or you can put it like this: I was "sleeping" and he awakes me by letting me inside the world of music.

Musically he inspired me to learn music-theory (which I did later), write songs and play guitar (like Hendrix). He let me test other instruments and recording my own demos with a 4-channel tape-recorder, very useful at the time. He fixed me out of school, so I had a full time-schedule of music - almost during the high school-period. Yes, that was good times :)

I have so many happy memories from this period that I easily could fill a book with different stories.

When Jocke Salinder moved to Spain I met another local fame guitar-hero, Lars Boqvist. He was at the time playing in a band called Dizziness and later Pole Position. He was also in the magazine Guitar Player among other things...

Anyway, he was truly an inspirer when it comes to develop my own skills as a guitar-player. I mean, only see him play was like an education itself, but I took a few lessons as well. Remember his words: YOU MUST PICK EVERY SINGLE TONE WHEN YOU PLAY, SO SKIP THE "LEGATO-THING"!! This was spoken very distinctly, but not loud :-) This line still follows me today, very useful phrase when practice with the guitar.

Almost every time I saw him, he was together with his guitar - practice as hell. Each tone, one by one, day after day, never ending solos... (I would do the same thing a couple years after we met, but in my own way) I simply saw with my own eyes that there are no shortcuts if you want to get anywhere.

About 15-16 years old I was in a try at the music-school Lunnevad, located outside the city Linköping here in Sweden. I was there and tried with my acoustic guitar. After some easy tests in theory I was playing two classical pieces: Cavatina (by Stanley Myers) and Recuerdos de la Alhambra (by Francisco Tárrega). I didn't get in because of my poor certificate from the high school.

Hello! How can I reach a good certificate when I wasn't there at all? Anyway, at least I had "a 5" (of 5) in music and perhaps I missed something: But I was in a try at a music-school, or...? Well, it (was) sucks! But I think this occasion made me stronger and more purposeful for next coming years, so thank God that I never get in there!

Then I spent months in the City-Library study notation and the way of writing scores (finally listening to Jocke's wise). I began to understand what I was actually playing, the melodies, harmonies and scale structures and so on...I also copy all Beethoven's symphonies to see if I could learn anything (still trying). Very ambitious :)

The major turning point was when I heard Joe Satriani's album "Surfing with the Alien" for the first time. I mean; it was so different compare to what I heard before. It's still one of my favourite albums ever.

I later discovered Steve Vai through a friend. At the time I wasn't so excited when Vai played with David Lee Roth. But when he released his solo-album "Passion and Warfare" my world turns upside down. I decided; I want to play like this, I must try!

You can say that these two albums was my own guitar-education. I recorded the albums by pitch the music one octave down. All this in a desperate try to find all the tones you can't hear in a normal tempo. I can say it took a while picking the two albums, but I made it :-)

These albums followed me for about 10 years exploring, study each and every single tone, all by my self. When I saw Mr Vai himself at a gig in 1996 for the first time, I complete my education with the word: Aha!?

About 18 years old I got a job as a music-consultant at ABF music-house JukeBoxen. Normally when looking for job here in Sweden, you have to send your certificates from school and notes about your life experiences. But I just went down an afternoon and talked to the boss Tommy Falkeholm, which later hired me for a full-time job. (for about 30 minutes after playing on different instruments)

The next three years I was working six days a week, together with the staff at JukeBoxen who was specially selected for the job. After each working-pass I locked my self inside the large professional studio. It gave me the experience that you never could find in a normal school. You can say that I was living here...

In the period between 18-25, I was really practice 24 hours a day and at the same time playing with different bands, both as a guitarist and sometimes with other instruments. The experience when performance at the scene is very useful and I got mine from this period. It was before I became a hermit...

Since 25 have been working in different places after JukeBoxen. I have been working as music teacher in regular school and taken private lessons as well. I have study; retaken my certificates from both high school and "public upper school". I have also worked as a network-technician, software-programmer and so on...

It has been fun trying different professions, but I know the music will keep me going on, rest of my life.

From 1998-2003 I recorded about 10 CD's with different projects, in my own studio. In 2004 my first "official" album Phraseology released on the label Lion Music. In the same year I was invited to be a part of two different tribute-albums in the memory of Shawn Lane. The result became Shawn Lane Remembered Volume I and II. My contributions was 3 songs (RIP)... In 2006 my second album Melodic Travel released on the label Lion Music.

Today I'm recording, composing, producing, jam, practice (less is more?)... I am satisfied with everything in my life, expect that I don't make any money on my music, I mean BIG money. But you know... I just play for fun and will be continuing with the music anyway!

So expect more... :)
