There's still Death in Melodeath for The Fevered

The Fevered are an Australian band recently formed but if one didn’t know this fact, there are chances you could think it could be some tracks that didn't make the cut back in the 90s by some Melodeath Göteborg band.

They do claim their allegiance so it’s not unknown territory once you read this: “We think we’re Swedish and it’s the nineties”. And yes, they do sound a bit out of time but their sound is definitely what their claims say it is. You’ll hear, here and there, bits of Hypocrisy, At The Gates or Dark Tranquility with a few Thrash Metal hints. Much, much, much welcome where nowadays Melodeath bands dwell in mediocrity and either try to reproduce something a la Iron Maiden and/or Carcass’ Heartwork or add some stupid Deathcore breaks or worse Gothic/Emo pathos-stinking.

Here's it is Melodeath, yes, but Melodic Death Metal that's still got some balls and still will make you want to headbang along contrary to all the posers plaguing the scene. In a sense, though their attitude is a bit less epic, they remind me of America’s Helcaraxe in the sense that they care more about punchy music than stupid feelings for which only 13 yo kids care about.

The music part being done, I’ll just add how much I enjoyed the vocals as well. Somehow they’re reminiscent of Darren White’s deep growls which you could hear in early Anathema. A tortured voice invites itself on Cycles and adds to the variety found here, as well as some “moshy” choruses which will kill your neck.

This is only an EP. So you got here 6 great tracks that'll make you long for more. In my opinion, the full-length is inevitable given all the talent found in this release and all the shit that we're being served on a daily basis in a scene that forgot that in "Melodic Death Metal", there is also the word "Death" and not just “Melodic”.
