Transilvanian Hunger is for
Darkthrone what is
Ace of Spades for Motörhead. The first four Songs of
Transilvanian Hunger were written by Fenriz and the other four Songs were written by Varg Vikernes. All the songs except
Transilvanian Hunger are written in the Norwegian language. The Album was released in
1994 and on the front cover of the Album you see a scary picture of Fenriz with a candlestick in his
Hand and I think this Cover should sure remind on the Cover of
Mayhem's
Live Classic from 1993. At the back cover of
Darkthrone's masterpiece you can read "Norsk Arisk Black
Metal" what means in English is Nordic Aryan Black
Metal. On the re-released Version from 2003 came the provocative text away and instead of that they put on the message "
True Norwegian Black
Metal" on the back cover of the Album.
The recording of
Transilvanian Hunger lasted only two weeks and was made in the band's own studio. Also provocative is that the Song Over Fjell Og Gjennom Torner ends with the text; "Den Norrøne Rase må Slakte den andre/Når blammen dunker for tungt på vår dør" This Song is one those what was written by Varg Vikernes.
The title track of this Album is a classic
Track to the whole scene. This powerful and very fast riff and especially the voice of this mad man Fenriz when he screams so pure so cold so
Transilvanian Hunger. This Song is sure one of those of
Darkthrone which was written for the eternity. Every time I hear this
Track I think of deep snowy woods of
Transylvania. I love the cold monotonous sound of
Transilvanian Hunger.
Another great
Track of this Album is I En Hall Med Flesk Og Mjod. The fast riff is brutal and I especially love the chorus because it reminds me of early
Celtic Frost. This Song who was written by Varg Vikernes who was working with his other name Greifi Grishnackh.
At last I must say this one of the most aggressive albums of Norwegian Black
Metal.
And I think it is very important to all Black
Metal guys because this album is the root of all evil and in every Black
Metal Album you can find the
Spirit of
Transilvanian Hunger.
Hail to the true, intense vampires.
