The French answer to Finnish Vorum!

Who wrote that France was only a country good enough to produce Black Metal? Sure, the glorious days of Massacra and Loublast are long gone but Death Metal has never been so healthy in a scene that was once despised for not being Metal enough.

Besides the behemoths that are Gojira or Benighted, a whole new scene is rising taking on all subgenres in their grasp. Obviously, France is still a long way to become the next Sweden or Holland, but guys better watch out because that much would have been said as well for Black Metal bands.

Ad Patres are a relatively young band hailing from Bordeaux with various members having played in local or international bands like Yann Herrera on drums formerly blasting for Belgium’s Enthroned. The guys have musical experiences from past projects and it shows in the musicianship that is displayed throughout this Promo’s three tracks. Even though I read their bio and they state their allegiances to early Brutal Death Metal acts like Suffocation or Cryptopsy, and that’d be a correct assumption from their part, I cannot stop thinking about another band that keeps coming to my mind each time I play Ad Patres: Vorum.

Now, you may not be familiar with Vorum (quite a shame really) but expect Brutal Death Metal done the old-school way with the depths that can (only?) be found on Entombed’s Clandestine. The guitar riffing and mosty the soli are very reminiscent of Cederlund’s own work in Entombed.

Now boy, did we already mention Suffocation, Cryptopsy and Entombed? I believe we did. If at this point, you’re not just a little bit curious, first guess would be that you have no damn business listening to Death Metal and should move on to something else. Obviously, the three tracks display fantastic quality, it’s brutal but it still retains the old-school touch and does not venture in Origin-like areas (for that you’d want to listen to other French deathsters Nephren-Ka with their, also, brilliant MCD), it's catchy but it's got depth. So there is nothing that would ruin the experience and a subsequent forthcoming debut MUST be produced because chances are this will be awesome because three tracks are fine to induce drooling but fail to completely satisfy the hunger. And I’m hungry!
