I remember well ordering this demo directly from
Isengard productions / Eastclan. This was the first time I came in contact with Darken himself. After waiting for 3 months nearly giving up hope that I would ever recieve the tapes I ordered [I ordered
Lord Wind,
Thunderbolt,
Minas Morgul and
Absurd's "Thurigian pagan madness" too] I finally got a package from Poland. Man, was I glad. Enclosed also a hand written letter. I remember it had terrible handwritting that took quite some effort to deciver.
I think "
In the Glare of Burning Churches" was the rawest shit I had ever heard back then. I remember my parents weren't too glad about it. They hated that tape ! As so they should of course.
The playful intro reminds me of
Conan the barbarian which is a prominant influence in Darkens warrior mythos theme.
The title track is a monstrousity of aggressiveness and pounding energy which is bulking out of your speakers. You should really play this stuff loud for the right effect !
Darken performs some of his most ferocious vocals as he keeps on screaming at the top of his lungs.
"The night of fullmoon" is a mid pace track, a bit calmer. But there are two fucking great outbursts of
Capricornus beating the drums with such intensity that it really freaks me out everytime I hear it and have to scream along !!
"The dark dusk abyss" is a ambient like track with half spoken grunted parts followed by another great track "
Through the occult veil." This is also a mid tempo tempo track but again with a mean kind of aggressiveness to it thanks to the pounding drums of
Capricornus. The last track "For pagan and heretic's blood" is a bit faster and even has kind of a swing to it from time to time. In this track, you hear
Capricornus experimenting a bit working towards his folkish drum pace that he displays on later albums such as "1000 swords" and "
Following the Voice of Blood."
The whole ends again with the
Conan folk music.
A fucking awesome demo, I like this one much better then say "
Drunemeton" "In the glare..." holds a special place amongst the Black
Metal classics.
