Crítica @ Onni

28 Junho 2009
Avalanche of the raw old school metal from Italian band Adamas strikes right from the first notes of the EP. Your nostalgia of metal of 1980s will disappear immediately! (but of course it has the modern sound) These guys have started the band just in 2007 and they have done a pretty good work so far. The sound of the EP is solid and quite good though it’s a bit rough and raw; all the lines of all the instruments are balanced. Production was done really well.
Adamas has quite interesting but yet a little naïve music. Sometimes it reminds of early Helloween with Kai Hansen on vocals, but Adamas has also keyboards, more thrash metal elements and modern approach. Energetic guitar riffs and solid guitar sound along with energetic rhythms and massive drumming overall makes this EP powerful and these 4 songs give you a lot of energy – actually, like thrash metal should. Sometimes the music is brisk, a bit pathetic and more straight, sometimes it’s more complicated and virtuoso, sometimes it’s more melodic or more hard. Guitar solos are bright and sometimes fast and not much melodic, in other cases guitar plays harmonic passages. The band uses everything what a composer can use for making interesting music: atmospheric acoustic guitar intro in “Traccia 2”, pauses and effective breaks even with bass guitar leading, elements of different styles, tempo changes, different keyboard sounds. These keyboards add some epic feeling to the music, make it deeper, soften the sharp guitars and give more melody that works well with harsh vocals. Although some can say that keyboards don’t match with such sharp and hard heavy/thrash metal.
And as I mentioned, the vocal is harsh and in general suits perfectly for this kind of music, with this guitar sound. Maybe the accent of the vocalist is not the best in the world, and he needs some more training, but who doesn’t?.. One more disadvantage of this EP is that thought that comes to you, when you listen to lots of bands: “I’ve heard something like this before”.
All what I can add is that layout for the EP is made in black and white, with logo on the front page, photo in the middle, and all the useful information like biography and line-up. Adamas seems to be a promising act with interesting ideas, but they don’t forget about simplicity that looks so great in this complicated world.
