Where are you, fans of Amorphis? Here’s something for you!
Actually, this album is for everybody who likes “dark, rocking and atmospheric” music (this quote is from official promo phrases of the band). It’s the second album of the Finnish Dark Heavy Rock band Gotham O.D, “Disbeliever”. It consists of 12 rocking but very melodic songs, and every of them have all the chances to become your favourite.

Some can decide that such style is quite boring and monotonous. It’s not that bright and sharp to become a big hit. On the other hand, it has everything to stay in your player for long: catchy melodies and rhythms, grooving guitar riffs, charming and elegant keyboard arrangements, and deep vocals. The part of “Disbeliever”’s magic is exactly in some tranquillity and smoothness. The balance between rhythm and melody is a bit shifted on the melody and lyricism that is probably inevitability with this kind of vocal. Songs are mostly mid-tempo and slow but at the same time very different. It’s pure truth that this music is dark, rocking and atmospheric (quite a rare fact, it’s usually complete overstatements in all those promo texts). Musicians of Gotham O.D build their music on vividness of rock, playing with different rhythms and sometimes borrowing ideas from the golden decades of rock, and every second proving themselves to be professionals. In the meantime the album is full of melodies – in guitars, piano, organ and other sounds, and of course in vocals. It’s really strong and beautiful album. Some progressive feeling just adds more charm.

The CD has interesting booklet with the big band’s photo but very small font of the lyrics that makes it difficult to read. Lyrics on this album have the imprint of indistinct images and philosophy that never stay in mind (you’d rather remember the music) and sometimes trite. Though, it’s written well. And this is another brick that build the atmosphere on “Disbeliever” that let us admit: yes, it’s good album.
