So, here we have the first album of the dutch drone/doom band Aardtmann op Vuurtopberg. Needless to say, this goes really slow and uses only very low tones. These guys do not even use guitars, only bass. Which certainly adds to the atmosphere of the album.

You can almost see the sun being blocked by the clouds, day turning into night when you hear this album (even on the brightest day you have ever witnessed). This must be one of the most depressing albums I have ever heard !

But, what is so special about this then ?
Because this is just what you would expect from a good drone-doom band, but these guys add something extra : the keyboards. It must be one of the best things they have ever thought about. This is truly what seperates them from all the rest of those drone bands, that one thing that makes them stand out.

The keyboards are very typical, they are mostly not low but he does play them very slow. This makes it almost hypnotizing to listen to.
The keyboards have something magical, something that almost cannot be explained. And it adds so much atmosphere to the album, that it is amazing.
Ever thought that in a drone band, keyboards would be the death stroke ? Well, I'll have to disappoint you. The mixture of the enormously slow bass that creates the darkness in the album with the keyboards that bring you in some sort of trance is unbelievable.

I have never heard anything like this.

And even on the cover track that they made, they do not lose anything of their own style or of the originality of the demo.
Burzum can play ambient quite well (I'm not saying he can't) but these guys make it something truly special. Even more hypnotizing, the bass is downtuned so the tracks sounds almost completely different, yet you can exactly hear which track it is. This must be one of the only drone bands that can interest me throughout the whole album, except maybe Sunn O))).

But be warned ! This takes a couple of listens to appreciate it.
At least, it took me a couple of listens and now : I absolutely love it and I can't stop listening "De Berg Van Verdoemenis" !
