the album gives a broad range for every listener to appreciate and familiarity that flows through with each track.
Corrosion of Conformity are not only returning with their new self-titled album but also returning as the original, legendary trio with Mike Dean on bass and vocals, Woody Weatherman on guitar and Reed Mullin on drums and vocals. “
Corrosion of Conformity” offers the full spectrum of C.OC’s true skills and passion towards their music. With major punk and metal influences, the album gives a broad range for every listener to appreciate and familiarity that flows through with each track.
“Psychic
Vampire” bursts forth with heavy chugging on guitar and a riff that’s along the lines of classic Sabbath, it then transitions to more of a punk influence with a powerful chorus before crossing back to doom metal that has Dean’s vocals oozing with a sinister vibe. “Leeches” is a kick in the face with Dean and Mullin’s screeching vocals and a fast pace that has you wanting to bust out into a mosh pit right there. C.O.C then takes it down a notch with “el Lamento de las Cabras” , a very mellow and bluesy instrumental piece that’s a nice break in between tracks before you get thrown right back into the chaos with “Your Tomorrow”.
“The
Doom” might remind listeners of C.O.C’s old “
Albatross” days but there’s a groove maintained here that lets you differentiate between the two and then takes the track up to a higher pace that gives Reed Mullin a chance to take his full aggressions out on his snare. “What We Become” explodes with the band’s pure anger towards selfishness and greed that has only increased in today’s society. The deluxe edition of the self-titled album comes with two bonus tracks, “Canyon Man” and “The Same Way”. “Canyon Man” shows of Woody’s guitar skills with a great lead while “The Same Way” is just fast, hard and raw.
Both are a perfect addition to the album.
“
Corrosion of Conformity” has brought back one of the most well-respected bands in the punk and metal scene and I for one are more than ready to welcome them back. This album has also pushed the band into new ground have shown that they are more than ready to stand on their own as a trio and show the world what they’ve got!
