Mr. Dibs, one of founder members of space rock outfit extraordinaire Krel, had been burning with ambition to form his own band. In Krel he got experience as a bassist in gigging strenuously or supporting legendary outfits including Hawkwind, Ozrics, and Enid. Mr. Dibs left Krel around 1995 to proceed with his new project SPACEHEAD, originally his solo. (The band name came from a review of Krel in a Manchester (UK) magazine which said 'Meaty, beaty, big and bouncy, these truly are the original spaceheads') But as above mentioned he immediately wanted to get back into some form of band, so persuaded a guy called Phil Howard who was a keyboard player to help produce a cassette album.

They soon vould hit it off well together, gigging and recording the cassette album 'Sentinel', which was approved by Hawkwind's Emergency Broadcast System (EBS) label. Recruiting eventually a drummer Paul Boers from Holland, they released an album '...Of Star and Time' (1996). Phil left the project soon after releasing the album to play some keyboards for Krel for a short time, and Dibs, Paul, and new Spaceheaders, Will Brazier-Smith (guitar), and Gavin Maelstrom (keyboards) recorded the 'Anasazi' cassette, which could move Dead Earnest label to release their second album 'In Space We Trust' (1997), compiled most of their early cassettes and live material recoreded supporting Hawkwind in 1997.

Graham Clark (violin, ex-Gong) could open the window of opportunity that spread SPACEHEAD's sound and style. He joined SPACEHEAD as mainly a guitarist, taking over from Will. In 1999 SPACEHEAD appeared on stage with another line-up, Mr. Dibs, Graham, Craig Dewberry (drums), and Fran Halsall (keyboards). They recorded an EP, 'Escape Velocity Preview', with Neil Mycock from Craig's old band Flaw on extra guitar. The next compilation album 'Explode Into Space- Inhalations 1998-2000' saw the light in 2001. For releasing a new studio album from Dead Earnest, SPACEHEAD recruited Keef Barton as a guitarist & keyboardist, with Graham on guitar, and Neil Mycock on drum duties, and they brought Mr. Floyd, originally a Krellian, on keyboards in early 2003. However from those days SPACEHEAD's line-up fell unstabilized and the new studio album has been released yet.

As a tentative plan, Dead Earnest released 'Explode Into Space' compiled with previously unreleased older tracks through live stages, to document the line-up changes and musical output since their debut CD on the label. By an irony of fate - in 2007, with bassist Alan Davey leaving the band, Hawkwind recruited Mr. Dibs as full-time bassist, co-lead and backing vocalist and co-composer. Consequently, SPACEHEAD as a band, are currently in 'hibernation'.
