Biografia : Sororicide

Sororicide, an Icelandic death metal band, was founded in 1990 by Gísli Sigmundsson (bass/vocals) and Guðjón Óttarsson (guitar). With the addition of guitarist Fróði Finnsson and drummer Karl Ágúst Guðmundsson, the band’s talented line-up was complete, with its rst live concert in June of that same year. Immediately, Sororicide exploded onto Iceland’s aggressive rock scene, gaining recognition after winning a national band contest under the name Infusoria. Soon after, the name was changed back to Sororicide and the band acquired a new vocalist, Bogi Reynisson.

The entityIn the autumn of 1991, the band entered the studio to record its debut album, The Entity. It was released in December by the Icelandic record label Platonic Records. Positive reviews streamed in, with Sororicide even earning the title "Album of the Year" by Iceland's largest newspaper. The Entity became so successful that by the mid-nineties, the album had sold out. In the years following, those seeking a copy resorted to purchasing used versions on sites such as eBay for sky-high prices, with the highest bid at €3000.

Apocalypse In 1992, vocalist Bogi left the band and Gísli again took over vocal duties. In March of that same year, the members entered the studio for the second time to record songs for the Icelandic metal compilation album Apocalypse. It was released later that year and included three songs by Sororicide. Again, the band received rave reviews, with the album receiving considerable attention from the Icelandic media.

In September 1992, shortly after the release of the Apocalypse album, guitarist Fróði and drummer Karl left the band, with both pursuing dierent musical directions. The remaining members recruited guitarist Arnar Guðjónsson and drummer Unnar Bjarnason, completing the band’s current line-up. With new fervor, Sororicide distributed the three songs previously released on the Apocalypse album outside of Iceland as a demo. The songs received praise in multiple rock/metal magazines abroad, resulting in notoriety in the underground metal scene.

Godlike Sororicide entered the studio for the third time in the summer 1993, releasing two songs by the Finnish label Rising Realm Records as a split album, with the band’s part titled Godlike. Shortly after, Sororicide decided to set the project on ice.

Deathless In 1999, a third song recorded in 1993, Deathless, was released on the compilation album MSK by an Icelandic record company. The next year, Gisli and Unnar, played under the name Sororicide at a festival in Reykjavík with the help of the guitar players of Iceland’s most popular rock band Mínus.

To the delight of Icelandic heavy metal enthusiasts, Sororicide’s ’92 line-up resurrected in July 2009 to open for world-famous death metal band Entombed in two now widely hailed performances. Following the summer’s success, Sororicide re-released the three previously sold-out tracks recorded in 1993 as the EP Deathless. Sororicide’s performance received its greatest reviews yet, even receiving the title of “Concert of the Year” by Iceland’s largest and most read newspaper.

Sororicide is now back on the scene and louder than ever, having evolved its sound and stage performance. The band has numerous concerts lined up for 2010 and will record their second full-length album, with a release date set for winter 2010 / 2011.
