Biografia : Sengir

Ever thought what a combination of Blondie, The Mission and Within Temptation should sound like? Well, check out Sengir's debut album ‘Guilty Water'. Beautiful female vocals, ethereal keyboards and driving guitar rhythms are combined perfectly to heavy emotional songs with a hard edge and a mysterious atmosphere.

Sengir was founded by Kris Scheerlinck and Jurgen Cobbaut in 1995. The further quest for a drummer didn"t last too long, and they hired ex-classmate Jan Samson. Pieter De Lannoy was hired as the singer and as the 2nd guitar-player in 1996. In this formation the band recorded their first demo, a mixture between death and doom metal.

Because we were quite impressed by metalbands which were using female vocals, we started looking for a fifth bandmember. Ellen Schutyser was to fulfill that part: she joined the band in November 1996. Meanwhile more and more atmospheric influences were being used in our music. Two days before the start of the recordings of our 2nd demo, the bassplayer (who was also doing the grunts) left the band in November 1997. After this, we decided to drop the grunt finally. We"ve been using only female vocals since then.

Olivier Roelandt has been replacing our former bassplayer Jurgen since March 1998. To give our sound a final touch we also began to use keyboards, starting from Octobre 1998. Filip De Graeve was the right man on the right time and place for this job. We recorded 3 songs with this line-up, which are all on the "Rookies I"-compilation of Watts On-records. Unfortunately, Filip left our group a bit later in May 1998 to go and play with Manic Movement.A new keyboarder, named Kurt Keleman, was to fill in Filip"s vacant lot. Though Kurt became very quickly replaced by Bjorn Schauwers. In meantime, we also fired our drummer Jan, who is succeeded by Filip Vinck.
