Biografia : Scarlet Haze

It's about time the world takes on a female in the male-dominated rock genre. This success story will only get bigger and better, but looking back, it was only a matter of time before they would find themselves evolving into what they are today. For Kat, it started at the age of five. You could find her putting on a “concert” for all the neighborhood preschoolers with songs such as Like a Virgin and Manic Monday in her basement. Really, nothing has changed except that she found three other guys who were doing the same thing at the same time in the city of Minneapolis, but now they are all grown up.

Scarlet Haze is what you get when you combine drummer Shane Speltz, bassist Tony Wilson, vocalist/songwriter Kat Perkins, and guitarist, twenty-two year old Luke Fredrickson who is also their producer, engineer, studio owner, and everything else behind the music. Each one of them realized their true passion for music early in life, and on stage, this foursome is unmistakably in love with playing the music which shines through every minute of each performance. With influences like Live, Tonic, Tom Petty, U2, and Sting, they create a definite unique combined sound, with high energy and musical / stage creativity that draws even the untrained eyes and ears into the exceptional, original product they are delivering. The Midwest has seen nothing of the like.

Each of the members of Scarlet Haze came from various successful bands and solo projects. Each had worked together with other projects and gigs, but as drummer Shane Speltz says, “It was finally our time to connect,” and that they did.

Kat (Kathy) has come from local fame in her home state North Dakota where she became successful in statewide theatre productions, did a stint on American Idol, and had a “default” country music career stemming from a long run in a country showcase show in the badlands. She recorded and released an album on her own label Left or Right Ear Productions in June of 2004 selling over 3,000 copies in just 12 weeks! But this country girl was ultimately playing a role, and it was time to follow her rock instincts.

In Minneapolis, Kat's “solo” endeavor in rock music quickly became a group effort when she called upon close friends and Minneapolis natives Luke (Lukee) Fredrickson of the bands Tunnel and Joel Hanson; Tony (T-Man) Wilson of the bands Saved by Zero and Krush; and Shane (Shaner) Speltz of the bands Little Egypt and Firetrucs. Deciding to take the leap into the band world and endlessly searching for the perfect name, they started recording in September of 2004. By November, they had finished their debut EP Out of the Dark and were hitting the stage for the first time together in seasoned fashion. By August of 2005, they released their first complete album also entitled Out of the Dark.

With loyal fans from all of their other musical endeavors, Scarlet Haze has boldly taken the Minneapolis rock scene by storm, and continue to make it look like an easy task because of all the homework they have done over the years. Keep watching for their captivating live performances in the Minneapolis area as they recently opened up for Bon Jovi at the Target Center, and will keep gracing the stage at the historic Fine Line Music Café, The Rock, Bunkers, and many of their favorite clubs around the metro area and regionally as well.

While continuing to do what they do best, they hope to catch the attention of people who will continue to take them to the next level in the music industry, as they strive to stake nationwide acclaim. Their message, music, motivation, and personalities are truly something special that were sculpted to be shared with a wide range of audiences. They are an inspiration to their peers and their stories will only get bigger and better.
