Biography

Ministry of Pain is a 5 piece progressive metal band from Old Bridge, NJ. Originally formed in 2001 by cousins lead guitarist Michael Roman, and drummer Ryan Sullivan, they began by writing unbelievably bad original songs. Soon, they would add Kyle as their original vocalist. During this time period, they began to take the band more seriously. This included trying to locate a rhythm guitar player and a bass player. In the winter of 2004, they discovered guitar extraordinaire Cary Smith. Shortly after, the band recruited Dan Higgins to play bass. They proceeded to learn a litany of cover songs, which were performed primarily at family parties and gatherings. After practicing these covers day in and day out, the band decided to create original material. These new ideas would soon turn into their first two songs, "Bound by the Chains of Death" and "I am Evil." Despues, the quintet played 2 live shows before entering a year long hiatus in 2006. Now reformed, Ministry of Pain has written many more songs to date. However, on the morning of January 26, singer Kyle was involved in an almost fatal car accident. It just so happened that this was the morning of the qualifying round for Jersey Shows Battle of the Bands. The band enlisted the help of friend Dave Raffa to fill in as vocalist. Unfortunately, Kyle's situation proved serious and he will be unable to sing for a period of 6 months, making Raffa's stay as vocalist long term.
