Biografia : Gandalf

The Finnish band Gandalf was formed in 1993 in Helsinki by drummer and main songwriter (back then guitar player) Nalle Österman, guitarist Timo Nyberg and vocalist Jari Hurskainen. They were helped out by the session drummer Mika "Gas Lipstick" Karppinen who later on went on to play with the world famous band HIM. Nalle later on changed from guitars to drums. Aftter a couple of demos and great reviews in the metal media they were offered a contract by the Earache inprint Wicked World with whom they signed a deal. They recorded their debut album "Deadly Fairytales" in the spring of 1998 at Astia Studio in Lappeenranta, Finland, together with producer Anssi Kippo (Children Of Bodom, Sinergy, Impaled Nazarene a.o.). This album was more of a straight-forward melodic deeath metal record and many people didn't like it as much as their previous demos since it was too polished. Their second album "Rock Hell" was recorded during the spring and summer of 2000 at Seawolf Studios in Viapori, Finland, with producer and old hard rock veteran Hannu Leiden (Havana Black). In late April 2002 Nalle Östermand announced that he had disbanded Gandalf since he saw no future for the band anymore.
