Biografia : Demon Dagger

The band Demon Dagger, was formed in Braga, Portugal, by brothers Vítor Carvalho (guitars) and Miguel Carvalho (drums). In 1996 the had their first live appearances and in October of the same year, they record their first demo-tape with homonymous title. This release allowed the quartet (at that time completed with Pedro Mendes (vocals) and José Silva (bass)) to enter in a mini-tour trough the north of Portugal. In one of the shows, they participate in the competition "Rock in Bracara", where they obtained the second place. This granted them an invitation to include their song "Corundum Pursuit" in the sampler CD "Rock'in Bracara". In the following year the same song appears in the CD "Guardians of Metal Vol. IV". In October of that year the band records the demo "Frenzy Wraith" while a formation change happens with the entrance of the new bass player José Figueiredo. This new demo-tape, released in 1998, was acclaimed by the specialized magazine Prómusica as the best demo of the year. The theme "Ignis Fatus" appears in the October edition of the sample publication. Then, the band is invited by the Theatre Company of Braga, to compose the soundtrack for the play "The Bald Singler", by Eugene Ionesco. Afterwards, the independent label Recital Records signs the band and on June 1999, the single "Soul Of Steel" is released, which was presented at concerts with the Finnish band Stratovarious. With the single song the band is again present on the compilations CD of the magazine Promúsica. In the ends of 1999, "Aftershock", the first album, is released and Demon Dagger is considered the revelation band of 1999 by the newspaper Inside. Once again the invitation appears to be present in the magazine Promúsica, this time to participate in the compilation CD "Winners of the best demo award". In 2001, new changes happen in the band: Pedro Mendes and José Figueiredo leave and are replaced by Joca (vocals) and Marco Alves (bass). With this new formation they record the version "Big Liar" for the Tarantula tribute CD. The band enters the Grave Studios in Braga and records the pre-produciton of the second album. In 2002, besides several concerts, Demon Dagger records its second CD, "Inanna Ishtar" in the studios Casa de Tolos, during the months of July and August. 2003 sees the release of this new work, being the band, nowadays, involved in promoting it. Then in 2004 the band participated in the compilation CD " À Sombra de Deus Vol:III" with the new theme "Away", being the last participation of the singer Joca with Demon Dagger, which was replaced by Shore. With the new singer they record the cover "Anarquista Duval" for the tribute CD of Mão Morta (to be released). Later, Marco Alves, where replaced by Paulo Chanoca (bass). Actually, the band is preparing their third album, with a new singer - Litos.
