Biografia : Demiurge (NZ)

Demiurge was formed in 2004 after Matt and George met through a mutual friend and started jamming some Deeds of Flesh, Cannibal Corpse, and Matt's first four original songs that were later recorded for the 2004 demo. George was already in contact with Jason at that time and, after meeting at a party, they came to the conclusion that Wellington was in dire need of a Brutal Death Metal band. They began jamming as a 3 piece when practice space became available, and soon decided that another guitarist was needed to compliment the unique layering structure of Matt's riffs. Nathan was soon chosen as someone who would be best suited to complete the line-up, having performed with Jason in previous bands.

In June of 2004 Demiurge had its first jam and quickly found that they were tight and able to fit together musically. Over the subsequent months, they amassed 4 original songs and 2 covers. The 2004 demo was recorded in various weekends during Oct-Nov for release at Demiurge's debut gig on December 4th, 2004 with local Carcass cover band Slave Cadaver and Black Metal band Draco Aerius (RIP).

Since then, Demiurge have performed regularly up and down New Zealand - including "An Audience with the Devil 3" in Auckland, the annual "Satanfest" in Anti-Christchurch, and plenty of gigs at their hometown's famous Valve Bar - alongside premier extreme Metal bands such as Ulcerate, Dawn of Azazel, Backyard Burial and Aphelon as well as an opening slot for 8 foot Sativa.

During 2005, Demiurge continued to grow into a finely tuned Brutal Death Metal machine and have established themselves as a leading act in the NZ extreme music scene. 3 more original songs have been written bringing their current live set, including covers of Morbid Angel and Suffocation songs, to just over 30 minutes. They bring a uniquely brutal groove to crowds and have a very energetic live performance.

In early 2006, Demiurge lost Jason and Nathan due to personal reasons and other commitments. Matt and George are currently trialling out prospective drummers and will continue to steer the Demiurge machine through the realm of brutality.
