Hail to thee, old school death metal warmonger!!! This is the official bio of Belgian death metal act Battalion.

Battalion is a band willing to take death metal back to the old days: playing gutwrenching songs from beyond the grave, not merely focusing on blastbeat speed but also on the feeling and rhythmic drive of late '80s, early 90's death material. A typical style which we love, but at the same time approach with a fresh modern variety. So we try to combine our obvious influences such as Bolt Thrower, Autopsy, Grave, Benediction, Death, Dismember,... with the swift-strike style of Terrorizer, the more complex songwriting of Carcass and the modern sound of death/grind acts such as Misery Index.

The band was put together by the end of 2001. At that time all of us wanted to form a new act - and old skool one - in the Belgian underground. Everybody was already involved in other acts/projects and thus had some experience in doing gigs and, more importantly, writing music. Most of all, we were motivated to take up our instruments and give it our best shot... and that's what we have been doing all along.

We recorded our first demo 'Warstorm' quite fast: about 3 months after we started. At the time, it was a pretty good effort given the little or no money investment in the recording and printing process. Nowadays it seems pretty slow and not at all what we're capable of, but it marked our first point on the Belgian underground map. Continuous songwriting and a lot of live events helped us to grow and in June 2003 we did another demo: 'Nuclear Devastation'. This was a pretty solid demo and got our name throughout the whole country, resulting in some very cool live shows with f.i. veterans Suhrim, the well-known Aborted and Occult and up-and-coming masters In-Quest, Welkin, Vermin (NL) and others.

After the demo, we decided to move on to a new bassplayer Sven. Pieter handles the guitar since day one and Tom was also our drummer from the very beginning: they provide the band with most of our tunes. The war-themed lyrics and vocal aspects are done by Ruben, also present from the first rehearsal. We all play in other bands but Battalion is the band where we put all our fucking brutal death metal vision in! No compromise... this means war!

found on our first full-length entitled: "Winter Campaign", a disc full of war, hatred and power! These recordings have been done in the well-known CCR studios at the end of 2004. 37 minutes of blooddrenched death metal to relive the horrors of World War II or imagine the terror of post-apocalyptic and alien warfare... This is your worst nightmare!

Spring 2006 is again a very busy period for Battalion! Our first record deal is finally signed: Belgium-based Shiver Records will be spreading "Winter Campaign". Meanwhile we have finalized our line-up with Kristof, our new recruited bassmonster who will also back-up Ruben in the vocals department - to put even more balls into the songs! The 2004 recordings are still relevant to this date, but we wanted to make this release extra special and added a few more days at the CCR in April 2006. The final result is a revamped sounding full-length with two extra songs namely "Torture Tactics" and "Death at the Helm" - which will grind your bones to dust!

So come to see us live: Our death machine is still growing, building it's armor and sharpening it's weapons... it'd be wise not to stand on the other side, because retaliation is coming!
