Biografia : Autere

The story of the heavy-metal band Autere began in September 2002, when guitarist Juha-Matti Helmi and drummer Jaakko Pellotsalo got an idea of forming a heavy-playing band. At that time they were on a security guard course and got a lot of time to think during the boring lessons. However, after the course was over, nothing really happened in a few months.

The idea still lived on and the guys got back to subject. The mission was to find new members, but this task turned out to be hard to complete. Finally, they decided to ask bassist Markus Virtanen, who was playing in Helmi´s side project band, to play an audition. Virtanen turned out to be a good choice for bassist and with this new member they were able to start playing. The trio began doing rehearsals by playing only cover songs. After a while, they agreed that it was time to start making songs of their own. At this point, they named the band Autere and started to search for another guitarist to get the orchestra really rocking.

They decided to look for another member via the Internet, although the web had proved to be quite ineffective when they were looking for a bassist. This time they succeeded and quick-fingered Jussi Kaumi joined Autere. Kaumi really brought something new to the band; no doubt he was a skilful guitarist but also quite a “let's-get-drunk-and-mess-up” –type of a guy. Since Kaumi`s joining Autere were not only a cover-playing act and the musicians started to make their own songs for Autere. This new band got nice feedback of their songs, but still something was missing, a vocalist. The guys were looking for a new member once again and even asked one to come to rehearsals, but this fellow turned out to be not suitable for Autere. The spirit of the band was not sky-high, as all members found it pretty lame to play without a vocalist.

Luckily enough they found Jemmy, who was very eager to join this band. Jemmy had a great attitude and he claimed that he was the right man for Autere because of his street-vice voice. He proved this true, and the guys were happy to get him into the orchestra.

Things were going on smoothly and the future seemed quite promising. Now that there were enough songs composed, the guys were seriously considering recording a demo. Just as things were running fine, drummer Pellotsalo dropped a bomb. He announced he was going to leave Autere and move to the town of Savonlinna. As a result of this piece of bad news, the demo was never recorded. In July 2003 Autere were facing the same old problem: they had to find a new member.

There was nothing else to do but to put an ad in the web and wish for luck. After a while full of desperation, a saviour came from the town of Raahe. Tatu Turunen, planning to move to Turku, was willing to join the band. Turunen was no doubt a suitable man for Autere.

In October 2004 Juha-Matti Helmi left Autere for personal reasons. For a while these four remaining band members tried to find a new guitarist to replace Helmi, but it didn't work out really well so Autere decided to go on with only one guitarist instead of two.

This was the story of Autere so far.
