Antithesis was founded in the summer of 1997 by guitarist Sean Perry, a native of Cleveland Ohio. As a young child he always loved to watch his father"s band and credits his father as being his inspiration for becoming a musician. In 1996 he decided he wanted to form a band with people who had the same taste in writing style as he did. "I was a big fan of 1990-91 Megadeth at this point and really liked the more complex style they offered. More run/riff oriented music rather than overkilled power chords. Don"t get me wrong, I love a good power chord but not throughout every song on the album!" Subsequently, it took months of auditions and placing "want ads" before Sean finally met Paul Konjicija or "Tall Paul" as he is often referred to as. Paul was playing with the local band Ritual, who three years earlier released an album on Massacre Records. Paul was looking for "young blood" as he put it. He had grown tired of the scene he was in and was looking for something fresh.

Rooted in thrashy power metal, Paul together with Sean now found it time to move on and seek new inspiration, and by teaming up with bassist James Lewis, the threesome commenced on writing the highly original material that today is the basis of Antithesis. A perfect vocalist was found in Ty Cook, and together with drummer Paul "Krusty" Kostyack, the lineup of Antithesis was completed.

With an impressive musical background, (combined 40+ years), the material the five guys were able to come up with, was definitely the opposite of what was big in the local/national scene by a long shot. "We really felt good about the end product and thought people were going to flip out when they heard it!" notes Sean. The band"s influences range from typical heavy metal of the eighties (Metallica, Megadeth, King Diamond, Hellstar), to the more powerful / semi-progressive metal of the past two decades (Crimson Glory, Fates Warning, Queensrÿche) to the progressive inferno of nowadays (Symphony X, Dream Theater), .Antithesis also incorporates jazz and blues influences, to preserve a fresh and original sound.

December "98 saw the completion of the self-titled full-length debut. "Antithesis" is the perfect statement of US heavy metal. The first version of the debut album hit the streets in spring 1999, which was a really happening thing for the band - not only did they team up with Danish based Intromental Management, but also did a good deal of live gigs in and around their local area.

During this time of turmoil Paul Konjicija left the band due to personal reasons, and Antithesis decided to re-record the whole "Antithesis" album with another guitarist, Tom Guignette. The "new" version of the album was released by IMP (Intromental Music Productions) in December 1999, and brought great response from both distributors and fans all over the World.

In March 2000 Paul Konjicija rejoined the band, and they started on writing new explosive songs for the next album, “Dying for Life”.

During the winter of 2001 the band signed a deal with US record label Nightmare Records for the American release of "Dying for Life, which hit the streets in April 2001.

The album was this time recorded and produced by the band themselves together with engineer Bill Korecky at Mars studios - ensuring it a high quality and extremely powerful sound.

In May 2001 the band signed up with Massacre Records for the European release of “Dying for Life”. The European version differs from the US version in multiple aspects; the cover artwork is different, the mix and mastering of the discs are completely different, and differing bonus tracks between the European and US versions.

With this release Antithesis will undoubtedly claim their throne as the best newcomer US metal band. Powerful, melodic and technical at the same time is what Antithesis is all about.
