Biografia : Abrasive

The Death Metal formation ABRASIVE was founded by Ralf Köhler (git./vocals), Alex Ringwald (bass/screams) and Alexander Mäckle (drums) in April 1999, and a half year later, they released their debut MCD “Victim”. The old school styled debut got good reviews, both, at home and also abroad, and they also took the chance to share the stage with bigger acts like DEMENTOR, HYPNOS, DISBLEIF, etc.

In 2002 the second MCD followed, entitled “Desire”. On this record, ABRASIVE started to mix their old school Death Metal roots with the US brutal Death Metal style a la SUFFOCATION or SEVERE TORURE, and before the end of the recording sessions of “Desire”, Björn Dähn , a friend of the band joined as a second guitar player. This fact was very important for the live performances of the band and Ralf Köhler had the chance to focus more on his vocals now.

After releasing “Desire”, the band promoted the MCD as good as possible, and got positive reviews for their MCD, and shared the stage again with bigger and established acts of the international Death Metal scene, such as SOILS OF FATE, DISAVOWED, VILE, FLESHLESS, GRAVE and they also played the Ludwigshafen Death Fest in 2003 and the Skull Fucked Fest in Strassbourg in 2002. After all, they sold 800 copies of their second output worldwide.

With their new work “Devotion” (2004), the four guys followed their philosophy to mix Old School Death Metal and Brutal Death, in which the Old School elements decreased even more than on “Desire”. The result is a gooving bastard of aggression and brutality with the typical ABRASIVE guitar lines accountable to Ralf Köhler , but also Björn Dähn had the chance to bring his ideas into the songwriting process. While Ralf Köhler had those typical Death Metal growls on “Desire” he invented also a more guttural style, which are completed by the high pitched screams of Alex Ringwald , and above all is the blast-beat-oriented drumming of Alexander Mäckle which gives the ABRASIVE sound the necessary power.

It doesn't matter if you listen to the goovy titletrack, the brutal opener “Between you” or the aggressive “Just flesh”, “Devotion” is much more homogenic and more various than the predecessor “Desire”. The song “Desire” was recorded again in a new and more extreme version. Lyrically they are following their way, and setting their focus on erotic thoughts and fantasies.

New is also the artwork for the cover. It is the first time, they don't work with fotos. The cover was designed by the japanese drawer Kahori Takeda and she is responsible for some other cover artworks in the Death Metal underground.
