Li Nan studied at an Irish Catholic school when he was younger, however his uproarious "rock'n'roll" spirit and belief that "God is made of flesh and blood" caused him to join the Christian extreme sect "Jesus Christ Holy Priest Community" resulting in him being kicked out of the school. He returned to China in 2000 and started the band Masturbation, which ended in 2003. After that he mysteriously disappeared all together. He returned with Chao Liumeng, who plays the morin khuur. The two of them went to Tibet on three different occasions in 2003, where Li Nan studied several pagan religions, after which, he renamed the band Voodoo Kungfu. In 2005 Li Nan disappeared again, only to return once more as a more mysterious 'skin-headed' person whose corpus was covered in signs and symbols.
