Shades of a disturbed land!!!

SHADES oF RETRIBUTION is a relatively new name in the music scene of the land from which they belong, Assam, India. This land and its people have always been passionate about music, always striving to be genuine, and original. Coming from that same bloodline is this new band. From a land that has seen the highest concentration of Militant/Insurgent outfits (approx.48) throughout any geographical area. The album Xongram draws from the pain and agony of the common man and puts it through the tongue that they understand. Metal music has always struck a chord with the masses as it speaks/sings about their problems and suffering. By using the medium of their mother-tongue, Shades of Retribution has been able to capture the attention of the people throughout this land.

Xongram (meaning Struggle) expresses the anguish, angst and anger of the people in eight (8) tracks that have been delicately arranged to give the listener a vivid view of what is actually happening in this tiny corner of the universe. Like the song 'Kola Daor' sings of the despair and hopelessness, the sense of living under perennial 'Dark Clouds'. The song 'Mora Xo' sings of the killing of people by various insurgent outfits through their inhumane actions like explosions of I.E.D in public places. Whereas the song 'Bhogoban Kot' sings of the state of near-godlessness when people are forced to question the existence of God himself. Each song has a distinct flavor to itself and the listener can feel (if not understand) the hidden pain.

My personal favorite is the song 'Andulon' (meaning Revolution). It is a song that negates the claim of the insurgent groups of ushering a revolution and establishing a sovereign nation through the use of violence and weapons. I cant help but beat my chest whenever I listen to that song on my stereo.

Irrespective of the fact that the songs are in a local language not widely known to all, the songs have been well-structured, with thrashing solos and great vocals. The drumming has been exceptional and worth mentioning as the drummer is just an eighteen year old teenager. All in all, a must have for all Metal-enthusiasts from Assam and India. A must-listen for people throughout the world.
