Abhorer were an early black/death metal band from Singapore (forming in '87 and disbanding in '96)and this is a collection of their releases, the 'Rumpus of the Undead' demo from '89, 'Upheaval of Blasphemy' 7 inch from '93 and their final work the 'Zygotical sabbatory unabapt' album from '96.
Wow, i bought the 'Zygotical....' cd back in '96 and i thought it was pretty excellent back then but listening to the tracks again on this collection makes me appreciate what a truly great band they were.
The album kicks off with the tracks from the album, firstly an atmospheric intro and then....Wham! 8 tracks of unholy black/death of extreme high quality, somewhat akin to groups like Sarcofago & Blasphemy but with a style all of their own and with a quality production that suits them down to the ground.
The two tracks from the 7-inch are similar in style but not quite as well played and with a slightly flat production that spoils the effect.
The final five tracks are taken from the '89 demo and you can see how far they had progressed by the time the latter tracks were released. The tracks are slower and are more death metal than black and extremely raw (as is the production) but are still a very enjoyable listen.
This is a release that deserves to be heard by far more people than it has already, the album tracks from '96 are excellent and the band deserves at least cult status.
If you are a fan of black/death or black/thrash or even grind (dammit any extreme genre) then Buy!...Buy!...Buy!, Your collection deserves this release.
