Algor are a duo who hail from the Czech/Slovak region of eastern europe.
Aldaron handles vocals, guitar & bass whilst Slavfist looks after the drums.
They play a fairly raw form of black metal mixed with some pleasant melodic interludes.
That's all about the background I could find on these guys, no bio with the release, virtualy nothing on the net and even
Eclipse productions web site lists their history as 'no', oh yes this is their debut release.
I would say their sound is a mixture of fellow Czech's
Maniac Butcher and old
Darkthrone but more polished than the former and less talented than the latter.
They set their stall out very early on with the fierce opening track 'Vzplanutie Slovanskej Nenavisti' which starts off with a cool mid paced riff before launching into an all out black metal attack. The rest of the album pretty much follows suit mixing fast and slow riffs with some very pleasant melodics.
All the tracks are in Czech (I guess) but black metal screams sound much the same in any language.
They have put together some pretty good tunes, it's very well played and the production is more than adequate but there are a lot of bands harking back to the glory days of black metal at the moment and
Algor (enjoyable as they are) do not stand out from the pack.
If this had been released in the early '90's it could well have been regarded as a classic but time waits for no man, music has moved on and nowadays a little more originality is needed to succeed.
If you live and die for black metal then this'll be for you, otherwise try before you buy.
