The band called Winterland doesn’t originally come from Scandinavia, but come straight ahead from Greater
Paris. Created in May 2005, the combo is a sextet that develops in a superb power metal, that isn’t, unfortunately, really original, since we have the impression that we are listening to what
Sonata Arctica has already done in the past. Moreover, Winterland, on behalf of the staggering resemblance of its music with the one of the Finnish band (“Forever &
Ever”, for instance), could be ranked in the rank of clone of Kakko’s and Liimatainen’s band. But, even if Winterland sins here, we must stress the qualities of these 6 young musicians. Indeed, Winterland is a reunion of talents, because the interpretation of the titles of this first EP is striking by its mastery! Then, for a first record, the sound reveals being clear and powerful, that is what all the first demos, not to say the first albums don’t get and this is a huge positive point! The band, led by Guillaume (keyboard), Cyrille (guitar) and Adrien (singer), has understood it very well. At last, but not least, tracks are all well structured, with chorus powerful and easily memorized. No doubt in the fact that Guillaume, Tertis and Cyrille Hejl are great composers!
Despite some small mistakes of youth, namely at the level of originality or singing that would gain if it was more worked and sometimes more high-pitched or more aggressive, Winterland is a new hope on the scene of French power metal and is a potential competitor with a private
Heavenly of a Fréderic Leclercq who would give all his energy in the compositions of Ben Sotto. We must hope, however, that they first LP will have compositions less ‘
Sonata Arctica’ and a personally touch more stressed.
