Grind-Death Metal Madness

It's quite uncommon for any metal fan to find a band that brings out some of the baddest and craziest of death metal while pertaining to the Christian faith. That is why death-grind titans Inevitable End can be seen as quite a rare catch. This Swedish quartet settled out first as a death metal act peppered with thrash all over it, at that time releasing The Severed Inception back in 2007. Later on, this thrash hatched into grind, and then it wasn't until 2011 when they came out with The Oculus, providing 13 reasons why all speakers and headphones should beware the metallic insanity awaiting them.

In The Oculus, Inevitable End is out to blow up radios and to crush the skulls of anyone who dares to give any of these tracks a listen. The quartet combines elements from different genres from all over the metal map, ranging from death metal, grind, experimental, and thrash to even some hints of doom and sludge metal. The end product of this boiling cauldron of genres is a sound of extreme madness that is sure to make one hell of a racket. "Cadaver Inc." opens with an ear-splitting guitar shriek before exploding into a death-grind mess of splintering blast beats and guitar noises, while "Memento" suddenly erupts with sporadic rhythms while vocalist Andreas Gerden screams his throat red with shrieks, shouts and growls throughout. Other heavy hitters from this record include the exploder "Tell Us, Parasites," which emits a similar noisy atmosphere as The Chariot, with what sounds like a hyena cackling in the background of all the chaos, and "Zen," being the most vicious track of all, may very well give the listener the sudden urge to bite someone's head off.

To make a long story short, The Oculus is one rabid hellhound short of a cage and tranquilizer. Every single track in this record share the same goal: To unleash a violent death-grind fusion to bludgeon the ears of the listener, and each one does an outstanding job at doing so. Of course, the common problem with this sort of audio violence is that while it will spin the heads of plenty of metalheads, the noise may cause others to run in the other direction. However, those who delight in metal's most clamorous acts such as Rotten Sound and Noisear will really enjoy this record. While The Oculus doesn't totally hit the bullseye, it is more than enough to make one want to bang his or her own head into a wall numerous times. [17/20]
