AZAHEL’S FORTRESS try hard to vary their music. The songs’ structures clearly show that the musicians definitely want more than just to play as fast as possible.
The atmosphere gets boosted and enriched by the integration of dirty Rock’n’Roll elements. Every now and then I am close to dance to the music :) - in most cases I shake my bones to this smart tunes.
Unfortunately, not all fragments are combined in best manner, so that the one or other uneven passage avoids full homogeneity, but the will to create an own touch balances this deficit. Apart from that, the band integrates some borne interplays and contrasts the well dosed aggression by this tactics.
Rarely, the group speeds up in rage and feels comfortable in partly swinging mid tempo. The best composition is called The
Pagan Sun with an epic build-up, which leaves space for many elements to unfold. I like the detailed vocal arrangements and variations in speed embossing this track. In this case, a hymnal sentiment is created and catches the listener as well as the merciless lumbering song Days Of
Tyrants.
Finally, the musicians dare to present a downright uncommon piece of metal with the ballad-like composition called Nachterwachen. AZAHEL’S FORTRESS manage to create a heart-warming mood – partly in waltz time - similar to the one
Dornenreich is known for. Maybe this impression is caused by the whispered vocals.
All that glitters is not gold concerning AZAHEL'S FORTRESS, but the ambition for suspenseful arrangements knows to enthuse. The one or other bumpy part must be straightened, but the guys walk the right path of recognition.
