Vykyng hits gold with this album!
This is Vykyngs second full length album. They also have a really cool Christmas EP out but I think you can only download it now from the usual places.
Anyway, back to this cd. This album is really well done. The music is 80's style metal along the genre' of
Judas Priest and
Manowar. The vocals are this big boisterous voice, slightly out of pitch a lot of times but plays the part of the big
Vykyng real he-man. The lyrics are really funny and at the same time make a lot of sense. There are no swear words or anything that you wouldn't let your 7 year old daughter listen to. As a matter of fact, the 7 - 16 year old kids would probably understand this album better than most adults! Especially with song titles like "Givin' The Enemy A Wedgie", and "Bathing Is For The Weak".
Vykyng is very good G rated band. The G rated
Steel Panther if you will.
This album contains everything that any metalhead would want to hear from the soft overblown power ballad of "Valkyries Are Hot" to the speed metal song "Bonecrusher" and true power metal songs in between. There is pure silliness in "It's
Cold In Scandinavia", a brilliant blues song called "Modern Day
Vykyng Blues" about how it's tough to be a
Vykyng these days.
And a true power metal hit song "
Sword And Shield". "
Divide And Conquer" is a great play on mathematical terms and I can guarantee that you'll never hear the term "Quadratic Polynomial" or "Limit From Below" in any metal tune! There is also an epic battle tune called "The Battle For
Valhalla" where
Vykyng defends the virtues of
Odin himself and all of
Valhalla from the evil spirits lead by
Kurt Cobain. It's a 9 1/2 minutes song that tells a great story and keeps you on your seat from the very beginning.
If you can't bang your head and pound your fists to this album, then you need to turn in your headbangers card at the door.
