A recipe for disaster....but it's just so good !!

On paper this should be a disaster. Operatic Gothic metal with a drum machine.
But it has in fact been one of my favourites. So why do I like this album so much?

It's very atmospheric and it has a lot of interesting touches and for the genre, if you really take notice, it breaks the mold. So lets start with the vocals: They're operatic female vocals, and excellent they are unlike a lot of supposed operatic gothic metal bands. She sounds like a professional. Also, the lyrics are entirely in Latin to really add to the atmosphere. The Latin fits the operatic style very well too. There's only one track that has male vocals and they are cleanly sung so theres no beauty and the beast thing going off here like what you get on most of the Napalm records roster.
And then there's the imagery and theme. They're dressed in renaissance carnival gowns and Venetian masks which gives the album a slightly occult and renaissance feel, which can be heard clearly in the music.

The, music itself is pretty decent. As I said, it's a drum machine, but it's not OTT. It also has a nice guitar sound- slightly crunchy, but what I like about it is that it's varied in pace and has hints of medieval ethnic Italian atmosphere and classical instruments like Piano, violins and hints of ambients which give it a sombre tone.

Every track is different and the last three tracks are instrumental which is a nice interesting twist to the album structure.

Being a fan the renaissance, Italy, dark atmospheres, and varied interesting metal albums, this CD just ticks all my boxes.
