Death/Thrash Metal can be an ample term. I pigeonhole Ars Moriendi's music to that effect, however the sound of this Austrian band gets more dimensions because of some interplays one needs getting used to. At the same time these elements hold risks.

The opener Shot You Down is all haywire, meant positively in large part: the first minute of instrumental intro comes across smoothly and gently floating, ere the drums multiply speed immediately and commence without advance warning. In team play with impelling chords and singer Mich's intense vocals they feature an all felicitous beginning. The guitar sounds remind me of Meshuggah; interim the guys decelerate the pace and vary sentiments. In addition, Ars Moriendi attaches orchestral samples to boost the tracks' effect.

The following Hate And Pain turns out to be the best elaborated work. Reason for that are a fine structure, powerful vocals and chords really compatible for head-bangers. Consequently this track leaves a lasting mark in my mind. Most of the 11 compositions are presented in short and firm style, so the five minutes lasting Fears can be described as epic. Ars Moriendi risk some experiments unscrupulously, they take the liberty of playing a relaxed, unloading intermezzo to amplify the heavy parts' force. I favor that the tracks are unforeseeable - the band does not compose in cookie cutter approach and utilizes uncommon arrangements. Admittedly the experiments are partly not crowned with success, like the less voluminous clear vocals in the concluding title song or some samples which do not fit in the build-up harmonically (Knives). Every once a while the voice operates one-dimensionally, whereby some refrains lose penetrating power. Ars Moriendi can take a lot of time to iron out unevenness; many respectable as well as self-contained concepts exist without doubt.
The journey (I hope not only to agony ;)) foreshadows a convenient progression with this release. My hints for the future to Ars Moriendi: turn your attention to the songs' fluency; continue to compose creative tracks and work out the good notions` details a while longer to top off the compositions in congenial manner.
