I already like how new year started, if it is to trust to gossips there will be many great albums in this year and one of the first release of 2007 is Wizard’s new album called ‘Goochan’. I am great fan of this band and although they are not very popular I take them for one of the best power metal bands. After many good releases I expected another good album from these guys and they do it! ‘Goochan’ is, of cause by my opinion, their best album, I liked Bound by Metal and Odin but in Goochan we can hear many examples how true metal is meant to play and it is very relishing because many new bands already forget it. This album have everything, first song on this album is ‘Witch Of The Enchanted Forest’, song is started by intro, with keys and human speech, after this little overture Wizard fire barrage of great riffs, Sven’s vocals are great and Dano is destroying his guitar with killer riffs and very melodic solos, Volker and Snoppi sounds fantastic, although I think Wizard is little, but only little slower then before, but it would be stupid to play one the same all the time. ‘Pale Rider’ is very interesting song, song is opened by very strong guitar riff, song is some mid tempo and chorus is very melodic. After this Wizard is increasing tempo and on ‘Call To The Dragon’ we can hear pure power metal hymn, I really liked drumming sections on this album, it is not stupid double bit all the time rhythm many power metal bands are using. Song after songs Wizard(s) are showing that their place is in the first Heavy Metal league, ‘Children Of The Night’, fantastic ‘Black Worm’, riffy ‘Lonely In The Desert Lands’… My favorite from this album is ‘Dragon’s Death’, song is opened by very powerful guitar riff, drums and bass are great again, Sven is singing little different then what we heard before but in chorus which is very melodic he showed he can sing in various ways. After 10 great songs I was like wow, can I ask for more? I knew this album will be good, but like this, I haven’t heard something like this for a long time, except maybe Grave Digger or Gamma Ray, now I am waiting to see where is the closest destination Wizard will play, until that I will listen this album couple million of times.
