I purchased Supreme Majesty’s “Elements of Creation” after its release in 2005.

Although, this is the 4th release of Supreme Majesty including their first EP, this was my first taste of Supreme Majesty. After hearing this, I quickly went out and purchased the other 3. This Swedish Power/Melodic Metal band delivers by far their greatest album. Unfortunately, after the release of this album, the band has gone through various band member changes. The only member left is singer Joakim Olsson with a whole new lineup. 5 years after the release of “Elements of Creation” we are still waiting for a new CD. Songwriter/guitarist Tobias Wernersson plays a big part in “Elements of Creation”. Although, not a member of the band he is all over this CD and is still very much involved with the upcoming new Supreme Majesty album.

The first track, “Soulseeker”, begins with a sampled choral effect, followed by a staccato drum intro that glides smoothly into an easily sing able melody. As Joakim starts to sing you can feel the passion in his voice which carries throughout the whole album.

Spellbound” shows the great songwriting skills of Tobias Wernersson as well as his ability as a guitar player. The next 3 tracks are by far my favorites, “Dance of the Elements” uses a female choir singing in a call response with singer Joakim, but pleasing and not over done like recent Blind Guardian. When “King of Warriors” comes on you’ll find yourself head banging right along to admittedly cheesy lyrics. This leads us to “My Revenge” about a man set to avenge his father’s murder by warriors but as cheesy as the lyrics may be, it is still a great song. The heartfelt ballad “One More Promise” comes to life due to the passionate singing of Joakim. “The Quest” is a standard power metal instrumental in the realms of Stratovarius or Kamelot with heavy reliance on the keys for the melody. “Dawn of the Dead” is another cheesy lyrical song but isn’t that what makes most great songs so much fun? “Die in a Dream” originally appeared on Supreme Majesty’s EP “Divine Enigma”. Besides a better produced sound, I prefer Joakim’s vocals over original singer Rikard Larsson. Closing this release with “The Bitter End” which is a perfect ending to a great album!

The CD also includes the video “The Making of Elements of Creation”, which is pieced together to the song “Dance of the Elements”. The video shows various moments during the making of the CD, exposing the goofy side of the band members.

This is definitely a CD for the power metal fan. This is one of my desert island CD’s and I’m patiently waiting for the new CD to come out but until then “Elements of Creation” is on heavy rotation on my mp3 player and in my CD player!
