Lee's Request might well be your very own request! True homage to Metal!
Lee’s Request is the solo project from Lee (duh!) more known as German
Death Grind masked avengers Yuppie Club’s vocalist. Lee started this side-project to celebrate the glories of late 80s extreme music which somehow are being forgotten nowadays. Which is quite a shame if you consider that without bands like
Napalm Death or
Master, much of what we know now as Grindcore or
Death Metal would never have seen the light.
Almost 25 years after the release of landmarks named
Scum or Streetcleaner, Lee shows us that this breakthrough music just never gets old (unlike me). Now, if you're an old fuck like me who discovered most of these bands when they were released transcending the boundaries of punk (which at the times was more post-punk and then much less aggressive than formerly known) and hardcore to new heights in brutality, this record aptly named "
Aggressive Past" will feel like a breath of fresh air. It will remind you why such anthems are timeless and that sometimes it’s best to look back in your rearview mirror than try to find the newest stuff in brutal scenes.
On the other hand, if you're quite the newbie, this is the perfect introduction to an era that most wished would have lived in the flesh. Lee aided with two comrades and the mighty Tom Angelripper from Germanic legends Sodom do not try to reappropriate the songs in some modern fashion but basically try to reproduce as faithfully as possible. This really feels like a tribute more than a mere cover album. Soon you’ll find yourself banging your head to
Master's Pledge of
Allegiance or
Heresy's Consume and there are gigantic chances that you’ll either want to pick the original record again to play it for the nth time or for the younger tads to eventually purchase the damn cult classic.
I can only bow down and kneel with my two own knees for this experience. It turned out that it didn't make me feel older but a lot younger as if a new spring had begun. All hails Lee and his request for this fantastic tribute and homage to the history of our most beloved music!
