Reaper of
Fate are a young, unsigned German metal band, who I’ve been asked to do a review for. Now normally while I listen to these tracks, I sift through their Myspace page, check out influences etc. But when I heard their first track, ‘Reverse the Rules’, I knew straight away who at least one of their influences was.
And it turned out I was right.
For me,
Hatesphere dominate these two tracks. They have the same thrash template, similar delivery and the same uncompromising attitude; ‘Reverse the Rules’ is a balls out thrasher that could potentially send pits crazy, especially when the more
Chimaira esque brutal breakdown kicks in nearer the end. Coupled with a spiralling solo, it is quite a kickass song for a younger band, but the Danish thrashers cast a pretty long shadow over this one.
Second track ‘Inaudible
Voice’ opens with a bit more subtlety before thrashing off in a more chuggy riff, more
Unearth than
Hatesphere this time, and the middle section is more melodic, powered by some nice heavy kicks. It shows a more refined edge than the other track, which is slightly too
Hatesphere esque for comfort, whereas ‘Inaudible Vocie’ definitely shows potential for the band to create their own sound. Fans of
Unearth and
Hatesphere will definitely enjoy this, others cant find too much wrong here. Its nothing original but there’s nothing wrong with that if its done well. Hopefully they can make something of themselves.
