1. TO NEW LANDS... (PRELUDE)

As the burning sun sails along the distant horizon
And disappears beneath the smouldering embers of the Skyline,
To explore the vast unseen stretches of the world and Leave us in darkness,
I hear the seabirds call in excitement for their fiery god,
To wish him well on his journey...
I stand on the shore and watch him fade away, sink beyond Vision and mind
And my heart yearns to follow him
Over that dark blue threshold,
To cast off from these modest shores into a world of Adventure and peril
And sail with the sun on my face and the moon at my back
To new lands... far reaching lands, beyond golden shores And high mountains
And beyond... a fair green country, under a swift Sunrise...

2. TO NEW LAND... (PART I)

The ocean calls my very name and beckons me to stand
Among the waves which crash and break upon my native lands
My eyes on the horizon as the winds begin to blow
Through the sails upon my moored ship as the moon begins To glow
Where have they come from, these surging seas and why do they not stay
I wonder as I watch the golden sunset fade away
My yearning heart which pulls me forth at last makes up Its mind
First sunlight I will raise my sail and leave these shores Behind

Sail! into the western skies
Sail! and leave my life behind
Sail! into the western skies
And travel forth to unknown lands where dark and light Entwine

Into the sunset, the western trail
Never to return to my home lands
The eastern winds they fill my sail
And carry me to distant sands
Through the storms I will prevail
To new horizons proud and grand
And beyond the sunset, the western trail
My journey leads me to new lands

I drag my boat to the waters edge and look into the east
The chilling darkness of the night at last begins to cease
The rising sun it shows its face and floods the sky with Red
The gulls begin to wake and call, and so I raise my head
The waves which lap about my hull they chill my aching feet
But icy cold or burning sun will not be my defeat
I raise my mast and hoist my sail and gather up my oars
At last I give my final push and cast off from my shores

Sail! into the western skies
Sail! and leave my life behind
Sail! into the western skies
And travel forth to unknown lands away from humankind

3. THE KING UNDER THE MOUNTAIN

Years ago on a mountainside sheer
The ravens were calling a warning sincere
The earth did shake and the clouds did turn grey
A storm filled the sky and darkened the day
A torrent of fire, the end had begun
As great wings of darkness covered the sun
The smouldering buildings of the great town of dale
Laid blackened and burning in the celduin vale

Far over the misty mountains cold
To dungeons deep and caverns old
We must away ere break of day
To seek the pale enchanted gold

Under the mountain standing alone
Thorin rests at the foot of his throne
Deep in the halls of silver and stone
Our glorious king falls into unknown
His sword in his hand, and treasures untold
Shining through darkness for all to behold
Adorning his tomb of mithril and gold
Standing proud in the caverns of old

Now oakenshield fled with his father and kin
Their riches and fortune remaining within
To dunland they marched, their numbers were few
Their fortune was lost, their worst fears come true
But peace did not last, a messenger came
From moria's depths, from shadow and flame
To war went the dwarves, 'gainst great orcish foes
And thorin fought bravely like kings long ago

But the mountain still stood, their gold lay inside
Guarded by smaug with greed and with pride
So thorin set forth, a quest which, alas,
Though bringing him glory it would be his last
A quest to extinguish the old dragon flame
Through mountains and forests, the company came
And over the lake-town the dragon was slain
The kingdom reformed and the mountain reclaimed

But bloodshed and battle was still yet to come
The wars of the past could not be undone
As goblins and wolves fought dwarves, elves and men
The forces of darkness would fall yet again
Though triumph and victory would not be so sweet
The king of the dwarves had been forced to retreat
His final great onslaught, of bloodshed and strife
The battle was won, but claimed thorin's life

4. THERE IS NO VICTORY

Beneath the sun kissed winter sky
And the gods above the earth
Sixteen sons stand side by side
Sixteen men at arms
Of those were two noble sons
Descent from noble kings.
Another four were stable boys
Born on western plains.

But all stood there on that day
A brotherhood of man
Survivors of an ancient faith
From whence the world began

The cold wind bites their bloody tears
But they seem to pay no heed
Their eyes fixed on the amassing force
Led by corruption, fuelled by greed
Warriors of an empty faith
Who march against their will
But blood will stain the land this day
Their evil aim will be fulfilled

Family
Hear my scream
Gods above
Prepare to feast with me
Family
Hear my scream
Gods above
Prepare to feast with me

"Twenty of them to one of us"
The bearded elder screams
A silhouette in the morning sun
Before the sun god's golden beams
In his eye a lonely tear
Falls down his wrinkled face
His heritage and his culture
Taken by christian grace

Stand against oppose
Death for our belief
Glory on this battlefield
Innocence and grief

Wipe those fearful tears my friend
Your death will not be your end
In the worlds, beyond what we see
Your life will continue then
You will again open your eyes
Your bones will heal and wounds will fade
With gods of old you'll mock and laugh
At the being to which you foes have prayed

Family
Hear my scream
Gods above
Prepare to feast with me
Family
Hear my scream
Gods above
Prepare to feast with me

Free on common ground
High above the roaring seas
A fellowship of warriors
Destiny is our dream
To arms one final ride
To death - there is no victory
Today we find our home
Beyond the sky, eternally

With tear welled eyes, they begin their march
No days after today
Tonight they drink and feast with those
Who had before, faded away
Shining sword and splintered shield
Broken mail and helmets gone
Those precious gifts, they are lost
They prepare to go were they belong
No screams echo when they fall and die
Only a silent final breath into the sky
They fall upon the barren earth
And there their nation will die

5. SEVEN FATHERS OF IRON AND STONE

In the days before the children of Iluvatar arose
When elves and men lay sleeping underneath the frozen snows
As arda lay in solemness, beneath the empty skies
For mortal men and firstborn elves were still yet to arise

The mighty smith of arda, the lord of craft and skill
Grew restless in the timeless halls, against his master's Will
And so he came to his secret hall, beneath the newborn Earth
And there he forged the mighty dwarves to bring about Their birth

Seven fathers of iron and stone
Wrought of flesh, sinew and bone
In caverns of darkness, sleeping alone
But to Iluvatar they were known

Iluvatar knew of the ironsmith's plan, to awaken his Dwarves before elf and man
To bring his creations into existence, and bring them to Life against his insistence
To pass on his knowledge of craftwork and stone, freedom And power, this they were shown
To give them the caverns beneath middle earth, their Metals and jewels, show them their worth

The mighty smith of arda, the lord of craft and skill
Had brought about his secret children against his master's Will
And in their golden secret hall, beneath the newborn earth
The mighty dwarves which he had forged, he brought about Their birth

Seven fathers of iron and stone
Wrought of flesh, sinew and bone
In caverns of darkness, sleeping alone
But to iluvatar they were known

Why would you exceed your authority and power
Your children are but imitations, born before their hour
I gave them life and taught my ways, the way you did to me
I only wished to spread my knowledge and how the world Shall be
I submit my children to you, do with them what you will
I take them to their cavern home, their fate I will fulfil
No, I take them as my children, take them by my side
They will sleep under the earth til firstborn elves arise

6. MOUNTAIN'S SUNRISE (ANNWN COVER)

Through oak leaves the sun did shine
I watched as the hillside awoke that winters day
The snowy peak before my eyes
Glistened in the morning snow and sent me on my way

Between oak and yew the giants chair sat
The forests trees guarding the once remembered king
Before my eyes I began to see
The guardian trees moving beneath the mountain's wind

Come with me and I'll show you the way to the mountain's Top
Come with me and I'll show you the way to the giant's chair

7. TO NEW LANDS... (PART II)

I sail over seas, through storm and gale
The stars as my guide, ever onwards
The gods by my side, the wind in my sail
For honour and pride, my endless journey

The bow of my ship cuts though the sea like tempered steel
The mighty ocean seems so mild and tame beneath my keel
My oaken craft which seems to soar beneath the endless sky
And dance upon the wavecrests, with my white sail flying High

For many months I journeyed on, I sailed through day and Night
With burning will and fortitude, with bravery and might
The golden sun before me burned the skin upon my chest
But the guardian moon behind me urged me onwards in my Quest

I'll fight through the icy storms
I'll never return to that life back home
Death will not be my chosen path
The will of my heart is on the seas to roam

This ship I built from trees I felled, this sail which by My dreams is held
A vessel by my might propelled, towards my goal I am Compelled
A journey over seas unknown, a journey I must make alone
For glory beyond flesh and bone, my mortal bonds are Overthrown
But did I know what I would find? what I would stand to Leave behind
No longer would I be entwined, with that which makes me of Mankind
And though I sail for ever more, no longer to return to Shore
I've lost the life I had before, my yearning heart can Feel no more

I sail over seas, through storm and gale
The stars as my guide, ever onwards
The gods by my side, the wind in my sail
For honour and pride, my endless journey
To new lands...
