So reluctant to abandon our scenic perch
Where the panoramic chaos is displayed from a safe distance
Here we calmly collect the sounds one at a time
As they gently arrive only whispers
Though these sounds are strangely comforting
They symbolize alienation

But familiarity is our comfort
So we relax in a familiar place
Far from the white-hot center of conviction
But in that fierce fire is where life begins

To protect is to deprive

For every emotional survival on this hardly beaten path
We've perished in a trillion ways on hypothetical journeys
So many gifts squandered
Living in a projected state

In this place the allure of our freedom
Is only matched of our devastating irrelevance
But more devastating still
Is the eternal solitude

There's only room for my eyes on this perch
