1.THE ENCOUNTER

I’ve never and i will never forget this night when i was 10. My father, my oncle and i were gone fishing this afternoon. During the winter around our village, Saltcoast Town, it’s really hard to find some fish but we can sell it for a good price. Night has fallen for hours now, and we didn’t get good catch this time, so we decided to go back home. When our boat returned to our small port, i let my dad and my oncle unload the boat. And i heard something. Like a kind of snoring. Very muffled but very heavy at the same time . As a young boy, my curiosity took over. So i took a lantern and i started to walk toward this noise, leaving my dad and my oncle behind. Once arrived at a the icy edge of a precipice which was not far from the sea below, I saw, or to be honest, I thought i saw some mountains moving in front of me. It was really dark around this place, so maybe I was wrong. But I freaked out anyway, and I started to step back slowly. But I wasn’t watching where I was going so I moved a stone with my foot, who fell down the edge and made some noise. At this exact moment, an explosion of ice, stone and water took place and the mountains I saw moving started to rise to bring up an huge dragon’s head with red eyes and purple flames who came out of his month, ready to attack the threat who disturbed him. I’ve never seen a dragon before and I couldn’t imagine that such a dragon could exist. With almost an entire country on his back. He turned to me and his eyes looked into mine. No one of us dare to move. I heard my father and my oncle running toward me, probably alerted by the noise of the explosion. My father grabed me by shoulders and drew me against him,
Oncle:-The dragon island
Father:-We are dead
Oncle:-No, he didn’t see us. Start to run now!!
And that’s what we did. My dad tooks my hand and we ran towards the village. I couldn’t stop my self to look back over my shoulder, and I saw this huge creature starting to fly in the opposite direction than us, creating a wind tempest with his wings and disappear into the night. But they were wrong, he saw me.
Since then, many years have passed. I’ve grown up, I got married to a beautiful girl, we have a small and comfortable little house, and I had everything to be happy in my life. But the dragon never left my mind. I dream of him every night like if he haunts me. It becomes an obsession. My father and I never went fishing since that night. He prefers to pass his entire time at his forge, and teach me this job. But it wasn’t made for me, and he knew it. He always refused to talk about what happened that night and ignore all my requests. Instead of my wife, who always listened to me with so much patience. I’ve always wonder how she did to deal with it. Maybe that’s what we call love. During one of my numerous sleepless night, watching the stars through our window thinking about him and wondering where he could be, my wife woke up, take me in her arms and simply asked me to go searching for him. She knew that I couldn’t be fully happy without some answers to my questions. Where does it comes from? Why did it not attacked me? Being so big, how can he hides itself so easily? I asked her if she will be ok with the fact I could be gone for weeks, months, maybe years. She said that of course she will miss me, and she will be worry because the world is full of dangerous places. But she wants me to be happy and she knows I won’t be in peace before I find him.
Wife:-So now please, go my love, and promise me to come back for real this time.
She right! So when the morning cames, I did my package, I kissed her with all my love, promised her to come back as soon as possible, and I walk away.

2.IN PURSUIT OF THE DRAGON ISLAND

Now it’s time to live the adventure
The one I’ve always dreamed to be a part of
I’ve left my wife, my father, and my village
In the pursuit of the dragon island
I can’t believe it’s finally happening
I hoped it since I was a little boy
I know it can be very dangerous
But that may be the price for such an adventure

I am sure that hundreds of wonders
Will await me
I have so much to discover
And I start from nothing

Maybe than I am just a fool
That just follows a stupid obsession
But I promised my wife
That I will come back with all my answers
I never be able to stop thinking
About that night with our meeting
I know she’s right I have to follow my path
Despite what my father thinks about it

I am sur than hundreds of wonders
Will await me
I have so much to discover
And I start from nothing

I have realized that I never left my village before
I had no idea of what I could find

I knew that the world was big
With huge mountains and endless seas
But I have never imagined
That it could be so exciting
The more I advance on this road
The more I know I did the right choice
I won’t go back until I reach my goal
And finally kill all my ghosts

No matter what I’ve to go though
I will do what I have to do
I have so much determination
I will face all the dangers
I’ll go ahead, I will be brave
I will never give up
I will become a new men
And at the end I will be proud

I never thoughtI could get the courage
To say goodbye to the one I care
I am sure that it wasn’t a mistake
I’ll have so much to tell to my descendants
The more I advance on this road
The more I know I did the right choice
I won’t go back until I reach my goal
And finally kill all my ghosts

Wherever you are I will find you
To get a chance to talk with you
And to understand what you are
And what is the land on your back
I’ll go ahead, I will be brave
I will never give up
I will become a new men
And at the end I will be proud

I can’t afford to waste too much time either
I need to find someone who can be able to give me information
Or a beginning of a clue at least
I have to go to the capital, maybe their, I will find the person I need


3.THE OLD LIBRIRIAN AND THE POWER OF WORDS


Our capital Hammer Broad, is really far from Saltcoast Town. The only think I know about the location is that it’s somewhere behind the mountain range called Green High. I’ve never been there. Lucky me, I met a farmer on the road who drove a charriot. His name was Earl. He told that he was going to Hammer Broad to sell his merchandises. I asked him if I could join him in exchange of some coins. But he said that the only think he wanted was some compagny, someone to talk with during the travel. It sounded fair enough to me. We had good talk about our respective lives. Our wifes, our jobs we both hate, and some other stuffs. After two days, we finally arrives to Hammer Broad. It was a huge city, full of animation with big colorful houses, with market places everywhere, and musicians bands playing in the streets with some jugglers too. I said good bye to Earl and I started to look for alchimists or druids who could help me in my quest. Most of them told me that such a dragon was just a legend to help children falling asleep. I decided to go to the town hall to know where I could get more informations. A nice guy at the main office said that I should go to the library in the suburbs of the city, the Kalidior’s library. There is down there an old libririan a bit crazy who knows a lot of stuff. It might help me. So, I went. And after few minutes, I found myself in front of a huge and beautiful building made of old stones and built like a castel. That was amazing. I walked in, and I met Theodor. The old crazy libririan, owner of the premise. I felt myself very comfortable with him, so I wasn’t scared to talk about what I lived, and asked to get more knowledge about dragons. Theodor was so excited by my story.
Theodor:- Oh my young friend. What an incredible experience you had. I am so jealous. Well, you should start your research in this area. I think you could learn more about dragon and their lifestyles.
Me:-Wait, do you mean…?oh wow, it will take me a long time to read all this books.
Theodor;- Haha but acquiring knowledge take time young boy. Be patient, and you will see. Your progress will certainly be very important. I will leave you alone now, but I will come back to you soon. If you need something, I will be on my desk in the main room. I have an absolutely fascinating book I wish to continue. In the meantime, have fun with your researches. See you later!!

5.A NEW CLUE


Theodor:-Well young boy, did you found something interesting?
Me:- Yes and no. I mean, I’ve learnd a lot about dragons for sure. But unfortunately, nothing about it. It seems that no one never saw it before me. That’s frustrating.
Theodor:-You know my friend, I think I can tell you a secret. A few years ago, I went to the Emerald Forest not so far away from here. I was looking for mushrooms I needed to study for some researches. There is a moment were I had the impression of hearing someone laughing over my head. I freaked out as you can imagine, and I tried to see who could it be. And between all these trees, I’m pretty sure I saw a tail made of...roots, that left very quickly through the branches of the trees. I hurried my self to go back to the library, leaving all my mushrooms behind me. But this event caught my curiosity, and that’s when I started to acquire all the books on dragons that you can see here.
Me:- Wait a second! Your story reminds me an old legend I read about a forest dragon that lives in the Emerald Forest. Are you talking about it ?
Theodor:-Maybe, maybe not my friend. The truth is I don’t really know myself, but you should check it out. Maybe that you’ve got a beginning of a clue, who knows?
So Theodor gave me a map to go to the Emerald Forest. It was around one hour and a half’s walk. So I left this strange but lovely men and I started to walk to the forest. Once I arrived, I found an absolutely beautiful place . With all these thousand years old trees, these little crystal clears rivers and all this birds who singing. It gave me the feeling that I’ve entered the dream world. But after two hours walking all around the forest, I found nothing. I started losing my nervs, so I decided to get some rest against a tree next to a river. I closed my eyes, and after a few minutes a heard some branch noise just in front of me. I first thought it was just an animal but it was actually a huge weeping willow to the other side of the river, walking slowly in my direction. It had gentle black eyes, no nose, two big arms and legs with flat feet, all made of roots. There was a detail that surprised me a lot, it was smiling. It was not threatening at all and took care not to scared me. It finally stopped in front of the river, sat down and sighed, making a very soft noise. At the same time, I heard a voice in my head.
Me:-What? Who am I? Wait...what? is that you that speak to me
The Tree:-Sigh
Me:-Oh ok well...I’m just a man who comes from Saltcoast Town. A little village far away from here. I’m not looking for troubles and I don’t want to hurt anybody.
The Tree:-Sigh
Me:- What am I doing here? I’m looking for the forest dragon. Someone told me that I could find it in this place. I have some question for it about the dragon island.
The Tree:-Sigh
Me;- What do you mean by “I smell like him”?
The tree seemed to laugh. And after a few seconds he stretched his out his arm, opened his hand, and gave me an apple. I remembered that the legend I read in the library said that to find the forest dragon, I had to get a special apple. I took it and I asked the tree if I’ll meet it. He simply answered that behind him, I’ll find the biggest tree of the forest. A tree that no one can see initially. When I’ll be in front of it, I will have to show the apple. I didn’t really understood, but I decided to do what he said. I didn’t had any other options after all. So I said goodbye to the tree and I started to walk deeper in the forest. After two minutes I discovered an empty round place were there was the biggest and highest tree I’ve ever seen in my life. As if it was a part of the sky. I approached and felt on my knees, and I showed the apple. Ten seconds after, I saw the highest branches of the tree moving, and I heard a deep voice that said
The Forest Dragon: So, you are our the visitor.
And little by little I saw a big paw made of roots and leafs, and after, a dragon head with yellow eyes, some horns and a beak made of wood and scales that began to descend very slowly along the trunk. Once it got to the grown, it sniffed to the apple and catch it very softly with his tongue and swallowed it. We both straightened up and I realized how tall and big it was. Just like the weeping willow, he smiled at me and started to talk:
The Forest Dragon:- So human, The guardian told me that you have some questions for me
Me:-The guardian? Do you mean the weeping willow?
The Forest Dragon:- Yes. it is the protector of this forest and it watches over me. It lets no one find this place.
Me:- But you, are you not the protector of the forest?
The Forest Dragon:-Not exactly. I am the one that makes it living.
Me:-That’s amazing!!
The Forest Dragon:-Hahaha you seem to be a nice person. Ask your question now. I will give you the answer if I can.
I told it about my meeting with the dragon island and I asked it all the questions I asked my self for so long now. It listened to me carefully and finally said:
The Forest Dragon : I see! I now understand why you smell like my creator. You met him long time ago, and his scent has permeated you. No one else can do this. Well, to answer your qu estions, no one know exactly where he is. He is moving all the time to be sure than no one could find him. But when he wants to get some rest, I know he likes to be in the bay in front of the High Pic Island. Maybe you should start to go there. But I have to warn you, you will maybe have to wait a very long time before seeing him.
Me:-Your creator, he is your father?
The Forest Dragon:-Haha somehow yes. No one knows if he’s a male or a female. The only think I can tell, is that we are all born on his back.
Me:-All of you? You mean that there is other dragons around this place?
The Forest Dragon:-Several. The mountain’s dragon in green high mountains, the water’s dragon in coral garden ocean, and many more. We are closer to you than you think. We just need to hide our self because we don’t want to be haunt.
Me:-But what do you eat?
The Forest Dragon:-It depends of who we are. I personally feed my self with sun, rain and apples as you saw. But it will be different for all of us.
Me:-No humans?
The Forest Dragon:-Hahahha no. You are to skinny to be eaten. Bones are not very tasty.
Me:-Well, I think I have all I need now. Do you have any advises before I go?
The Forest Dragon:-Stay as you are, and go with the flow. You have a good heart little boy. I can tell you that everything will be ok for you.
Me:-Ok then, thank you so much for everything you did, you and the guardian. and don’t worry, I will never tell anyone about our meeting.
The Forest Dragon:-I already knew that human. May the luck be with you. You’ve get my bless.Farewell
Me:-Goodbye.
So I came out of the forest, and I hit the road once again, looking forward to go to the high pic island bay with the help of the map. Let’s keep going.

6.A LONG WAY OF HOPE

7.HERE YOU ARE


This walk was very pleasant. It gave me the opportunity to clarify a lot of things about my family and the life I have in Saltcoast Town. Even if it was necessary for me to find the dragon, I really can’t wait to be back home. But for now, let’s go back to our story. When I arrived to the bay of High Pic Island, I found an awesome place shaped like a crescent moon, surrounded by trees and cliffs. The water was beautiful and the sound of the waves crashing on the sand was so soothing. Much further of the bay, on the sea, I was able to see the High Pic Island. I tried to to watch if something was moving on it, but it didn’t seems to. As I didn’t quite know where to start searching him around this place, If he was ever there, I told myself it was better to sit on the sand, to observe and to wait for the moment. So I approached the sea and at this precise moment, the mountain to the far left of the bay started to move. The water that had been so calm until then began to rage and a neck of about thirty meters came out. I finally saw his face. This famous face that I’ve never been able to forget since my childhood and that still haunts my dreams now. There he is, I found him. He was even bigger than in my memories. As big as the entire city of Hammer Broad at least. His body was all black, except his back and the top of his tail that was full of Grey and brown mountains. That was just unbelievable. He turned his head in my direction and looked at me with his red eyes. This time, he was not aggressive at all. He was extremely calm, and had very soft movements. I was so impressed and happy that I wasn’t able to speak but after a moment I heard his voice into my head like for the Guardian and the forest dragon.
Dragon Island:- This smell...i remember this smell. You are this little thing on the icy cliff I’ve seen several moons ago.
Me:-You recognize me because of the smell you let on me?
Dragon Island:-I let a mark on every creature that doesn’t seems to be a threat for me and my children. This is my way to sort out those who are dangerous and those who are not. You were too small and too afraid to be threat despite the fact you made a lot of noise, disturbing my meal.
Me:- Your meal. Do you mean the fishes? That why we weren’t able to get any catch. You ate all of them.
Dragon Island:-This is a good spot during this period of the year for me to eat. And I need a lot of them to feed my children. But anyway. What do you want little thing?
Me:-Well I think about our meeting for years now. You are such an extraordinary creature. I mean no one looks like you. You have like an entire country on your back. And I was wondering why you did attacked me. So I started to look for you because I have so many questions to ask.
Dragon Island:-I see. You seems to be a very persevering person. But how did you find me?
Me:- I met an old librarian who help me to find the forest dragon into the emerald forest. He told me that sometime you like to get some rest here. So I wanted to check if you could be there.
Dragon Island:-So, you met my second child. I see that you are not scared of us, not like a lot of your species. Haha you’re amusing me. Your curiosity seems to be like an endless ocean. Well let me hear your questions. If it’s so important to you it will be my pleasure to answer.
Me:- Oh dear, I don’t know where to start...the forest dragon told me you are the creator of all the dragons in this world by your own. How is that possible? Where do you come from? And how do you do you hide yourself so easily being so big? And how…
Dragon Island:-HAHAHA keep calm little thing, keep calm. I will offer you something you might like and answer all your questions at the same time
After his scream, a ginger dragon as tall as a human started to fly from his back, to come to the land in front of me, doing a little sand storm with his wings.
Dragon Island-:Here is my daughter, Sorivar. Ride her back, she will show you.
Sorivar lay down on the sand to let me ride her back.
Dragon Island:- Hold on her neck tight if you don’t want to fall. Those of your kind are not used riding on our back.
So I did. I was scared to death but so exited at the same time. I couldn’t believed what was happened to me. She standed up and started to fly.
Dragon Island:-Get a lot of attention little thing, no one before you have seen what you are about to see.
Ok...here I am here I go



8.WHAT AN INCREDIBLE TIME


It goes so fast
And we go so high in the sky
I don’t know what to expect
But we are very close now
The mountains are almost
There like if I could touch them
And once we overpassed them
I’ve been introduced to a new world

I saw an entire universe
Populated by all types of dragons
Evolving in a huge and green valley
Protected by the back of this giant
Babies like fruits grow in trees
Fed by water from a waterfall
That find birth in the mountains of his back
It goes beyond anything I could imagine

The biggest dragons learn to the youngest ones
All the things they need know to survive
And in the same time they play with them
Everything is working like a family
There is so much happiness all around this place
So much more than in our own world
There is no war there is no fight
There is just tolerance and love everywhere

I’ve found in this place a new definition of life
I’ve never seen something as beautiful as that
He is the essence of his own nature and world
Because of him I’m living an incredible time

This is more than all i’ve ever expected
I feel so grateful for him and my wife
This is something i will live only once
So I might as well take full advantage
It answers to all my questions
That I’ve asked my self for so much time now
I am not dreaming, because this is for real
I’m living what an incredible time

I’ve found in this place a new definition of life
I’ve never seen something as beautiful as that
He is the essence of his own nature and world
Because of him I now living what an incredible time
(Because of him because of her everything has changed in my life)

Dragon Island:- So human, are you enjoying your trip?
Me:- This is more than everything I could expect, this is the biggest experience I’ve ever lived I have no words to describe what you are. You push the limits of imagination itself. This is so beautiful.
Dragon Island:-Haha I’m glad you like it. But this is not done yet. Do you want to see something even more beautiful?
Me:-What, what do you mean?
Dragon Island:-This is something I call soaring dragons. This is the initiation time for the new born dragons to start to fly, by flying my self. Get ready little thing it will shake. Sorivar!! Take good care of our friend, he is not ready for what he will live
So he began to spread his wings. As his body was half in the sea, by freeing them, he created geysers as large as himself. When he started to flap his wings, he made waves that would have capsized any ships on the area. And when he took off, he made the whole world tremble.

It was then that I saw his world fly away accompanied by a tornado of cries of joy and colors
All around us babies were circling trying to fly awkwardly but once they get it they started to sing an accomplishment song of happiness
They flew higher like a rainbow wanting to touch the most distant stars ready to conquer the endless sky like a commet circling the earth
No one else than me had seen this event I’m the luckiest men in this world I will never forget this moment ‘til I die let’s be honest what an incredible time



9.EPILOGUE: FINALLY BACK HOME


This initiation, which could be compared to a kind of dance too, only lasted a few minutes, but it felt like an eternity to me. I was so amazed that I did not see the time pass. But every dream has come to an end, so the dragon island started to descent to the bay. Sorivar put me on the beach and went back to the back of her father. I just had the time to do a sign as a good bye to her, but I wanted to exchange some last words with the giant.
Me:-I have no words to say how much I’m thankful to you. But why did you show me all of this, you barely know me.
Dragon Island:-Haha. Well you come from a long way to find me. And if my son trusted you enough to give you informations about me, it means that he juged that you have a pure heart. And I saw in your eyes that you have a real fascination for us. So maybe it’s time that someone of your species should tell to the others that we are not the monsters they believe we are. It’s time to change minds. I will tell all the children not to be aggressive with you if you are close to their nest. Some of them could even be cooperative with you. But I trust you to not tell too much. I must protect my children and keep them safe.
Me:-Don’t worry your most important secrets will stay safe with me. I’ll do my best to tell people to not hunt you anymore. Maybe this way in a near futur both our races will be able to colaborate with each other.
Dragon Island:-Maybe so, maybe not. Who knows? But for now it’s time for me to move on. I can’t stay on the same place to long. Farewell little thing and have great life. I hope you enjoyed the trip.
Me:-Oh yes I did. Thank you so much for everything you did to me.
Dragon Island:-You’re welcome dear friend.
Me:-Wait a second, do you think I’ll see you again, like next winter in Saltcoast Town?
Dragon Island:-Maybe so, maybe not. Who knows? Keep watching, and you will see. Goodbye!!
And he started to swim on the sea toward the horizon. I watched him going away until to could being able to seing him. I ran as fast as possible to Hammer Broad to tell Theodor what I’ve discovered;
Theodor:-Hohoho my young friend, what an incredible time you had.
Oh my old friend, you can’t even imagine. I asked him how I could do to write a book and get publish to respect my promise to the dragon island. He told me that he had a friend who ran an edition house specialized in mythologies and legends. It could be very helpful for me. So I decided that it was now time for me to go back home. I was so happy to find my wife. We passed hours and hours to talk about everything I’ve lived, all the people I met and about my futur projects. My father instead of my wife, thought that I was a fool. But after meeting the mountains, and the ocean dragons, I started to write the first tome of the severals others I’ve written about dragons. Without telling any of their most important secrets for sure. It has been a huge success and my father finally told me “I was wrong my son, you’re not a fool. But in the meantime I still travel the world to meet other dragon to learn more about them for my books. I never forget to visit Theodor to keep him informed of my discoveries. And he is still the same crazy and exited old man everytime he see me. So much stories to tell my wife when I come back home from my researches trips. But you know what, she told me yesterday that I’ll have a little human, I’ll meet in 9 month the one to whom I’ll be able to tell all my adventures. But that is another story.
