Serpent Column : Tassel of Ares

Lyrics
1. RECLAIMING DECADES ERASED
There are no smoldering ruins
Just distant memories
And vacant fields, trapped with barbed wire
Where new things grow
Like they always do
Yet now, unlike then
You and I will never know
What dared to exist.
A great open secret
Is laid bare
In places that always were
And always will be
Where there are next to none
To eavesdrop on the blackbirds
In the closest thing
To perfect freedom.
There you will know
Inner states are not so remote
And a very real telepathy
Is as everyday as breathing
And that the feeling you get
In earshot of the carnival
And its calculated abominations
Running centuries overlong
Is a signal indeed
And even further, an indispensable yoke.
That you cannot find the ruins of a time
When the fences ran down
Not longer than a decade ago
When there were fewer eyes and ears
Trained only for obedience
And this month’s flavor of consensus
Is no mistake or mere circumstance
But an incalculable loss:
The destruction of countless futures
That could have been distinctly our own.
2. UNTO WORKS AND DAYS
Venture far and wide.
What do you see
Compared to then,
Which was not so long ago at all?
Who and what masquerades
In the corpse of our movements?
What you would have came upon
Would that the old currents be released
Is that this, from legends of the original moments and prototypes
To the limitless ocean we just had
That boiled away almost overnight
Was all an implicitness, or at least seen as such,
Of a certain certainty
That cannot be named
And that left unchecked
Would have came upon history anew
And illuminate the present moment
And may have yet dismissed it all
Were such questions even thinkable,
Yet this was not to be so…
There you would learn the truth
Of our destiny
And what’s more,
That the names and dates
Of who is to become master
And vassal
Executioner and victim
Were just histories written down
Even centuries in advance.
You would find the bedrock
Of the underpinning myth
To be less than a fact
Upon a gruesome necessity
Until you have understood
The need for enough strength
To wrest the future at all costs
From those who want you dead
So that they may reign forever
Over broken ruins.
3. THE LONG WAR OF ESSENTIAL STRUGGLE
One morning
An avatar of Hephaistos, perhaps unwitting
Will weave the links
And you will know their every shape
For you are the hammer
That will forge the contours of destiny.
You will grab your rifle and sword
And last pair of boots
And force a rupture
Each step and careful motion
A fearsome harmony of movement and will
Sending shockwaves through the aether
As lightning strikes the metropole
And can even challenge the mountains
And the thieves who dwell inside them
Who you shall scour from the surface of the earth
And not rest, till your sons and grandsons
Have scoured them from the edges of the cosmos
Spare none your thunderous hammer
For they contain the seeds
Of yet another cycle
Yet this time, it is final
There is no turning back
The circle must be broken
At all costs
The motions of history are now your anvil
Broken with nothing more
Than the simplicity of will
Forged in long years of wasted potential
And abandoned futures.
You will avenge your dead selves
And unfurled lineages
And justify each wasted day
Spent under the yoke
Of that now discarded world
Which will be forgotten
Mentioned offhand
In a chance retelling
Like a fading crease
In the shield of Achilles
That no one shall notice
In the distant remove
Of centuries passing by.
On that day, the price of freedom was paid
In the simplicity of conviction
And then one morning
It will be said,
“Now we have a world
That is worth living in
Is worth dying for
Is worth writing about
A world that will last
And be a bastion of hope
For the genesis of beings
In whom Being itself
Unfurls its helical mysteries
And infinite refractions
Like the secret physics of mirrors
And other mysteries
Yet to be given form
In even the most crude
Of human arts
The mastery of which
Once unveiled,
Would put the stars in our grasp
Would that unspeakable forces
Permit such excursions…”
4. IN DEATH I WILL REMEMBER THE COLOR OF HER IRISES
