Renouncing the pleasures of the world
A very hard rung to step on
The ladder to the Heavenly heights
My earthly body is acrophobic

I gaze at this mountain of the filth I collected
Flashes of my crimes when I close my eyes
Where do I begin to take accountability?
How do I begin to let my own will die?

Please let it die

Up from the water grave I approached Thee
Now here I am cursing as I face west
I hoped I had killed off the old me
But a rotten piece of him still dwells in me

Tunnel vision as I lock in on my passions
Grinding my teeth as I'm tempted again
The enemy knows how I crave these scraps
While the full course of heaven surrounds me

Save me

I'm burdened
I'm unclean
Save me from despair for I know I will fail again

The tide brews again
My ship battered by the waves
Calm the storms of temptation oh Lord
For the winds cease at your command

Tugging upon me to cause me to slip
To steal away my salvation
Unroot these passions I live with
Annul my dealings with Satan
Two steps up and one slip down
Grabbing on the rungs again
My gracious God
Help me to ascend

I could lock my gaze on You but all I know is red again
As I stare westward in rage
I could run into the arms of He who killed the reaper
Yet with clenched fists I run at the devil again

You crushed death itself below your heal
Yet somehow I'm still reluctant to unite with You
