1. THE TROOPER

You fire your musket but I run you through

The bugle sounds - the charge begins

The smell of acrid smoke and horses breath
As I plunge on into certain death.

When a Russian gets me in his sights

A burst of rounds take my horse below.

Without a tear I draw my parting groan.
